apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

#6 - Creed's Polkadot Pad

Name: Creed Atticus, 6-months-old
Location: Columbus, OH

Why I chose these colors for the nursery:
My mom says that you should always find fabric that you want to go in a room before choosing paint colors because great fabric is so much harder to find (advice I haven't followed in any of the other rooms in my home).

I fell in love with this brown bedding with bright polka dots, and chose the paint colors to coordinate. I love chocolate brown with just about any other color. I wanted to include red in the room, but thought red and brown walls in such a small space would be too overwhelming so I chose brown and aqua and couldn't resist adding a few punches of red.

Two Good Color Tips:
Don't be afraid to experiment with paint. It's easy, affordable, and makes a huge difference in a room.

My sister is a semi-famous scrapbooker and I love browsing through her scrapbooking paper for inspiring color combinations. That's where I first saw chocolate brown, turquoise, and red together.

Oh, I wish the rules would have allowed me to submit new pictures! After I saw these photos, I found myself thinking, "Almost but not quite" about the art on the walls. I took down all of the fairy doors and just put one in a small corner and I'm working on a new art project for the wall above the crib. Oh well, I guess now I'll have plenty of time to finish it up!

Wow! Great room. I love red and turquoise/aqua together. I do that a lot with my clothes and accessories.

The brown does a nice job of calming the colors down. Also, I love the scalloped edging. Great job!

I'm excited to see someone from Columbus in the contest. We live in C-bus also. Go Bucks!

Cute room! I think Mo Willems would be so ecstatic to see those pictures on the wall — gotta love that Pigeon!!! I'm a huge fan of his work. Nice job whoever painted them.

The bedding is from the Gap, but they just stopped carrying it. I did the scallop on the walls by painting the whole room blue and then taping a level line all the way around the room. After that I got a plastic plate the size I wanted my scallops to be and put a bit of tape across it just below the center. I line the tape up with the tape on the wall and traced the plate using a pencil, then moved it over and traced it again. Then I painted it in by hand. I'm SURE there is a faster way to do this by creating your own stencil, but that's the way I did it.

I did do the paintings of the pigeon from Mo Willems books. Thanks for the nice coments. I wish I would have been able to put a clear picture of all three of them up there because I love the way they turned out. The first one says, "Creed and I don't want to go to bed. We're not even tired!" The second one says, "It's the middle yaaaaawn of the day in China." and in the third picture he's dreaming of driving a bus.

This room is great, I think better photography would have put you higher up the running.
