Other favorite nursery from the contest: I really liked #10 - Finn's Soothing Sleeper. I loved the clean simplicity of the room; it was uncluttered and practical with a soothing color palette. I really like look of Jenny Lind cribs, Dwell bedding, and Ikea cube shelves... and I think I saw the corner of a danish modern dresser?! The Flor tiles and lantern lights added a whimsical element... and the pillow on the comfy upholstered rocker was fabulous! Definitely something that could grow with the child... I loved it.
In your child's room, tell us about and show us your favorite colorful object?:
I'd have to say that I'm very happy with the slipcover for our Poang chair. I went around and around before deciding on fabric because I wanted something that balanced out the graphic dots of the bedding by adding a softer element, but without competing visually... The Amy Butler fabric had touches of lime green, which I love (and painted the doll bed and the back of the bookcase with...), and almost the exact shade of sky blue from the wall color. The 'mustard' background of the fabric tied in the warmth of wood floor and doors. The flowers were still 'graphic', but didn't overtake the room or detract from the other patterns. I then found the "non-color" white Vinde pillow from Ikea that had a mod circle pattern in the texture to tie in with the bedding, so it was a perfect fit... The chair itself is comfortable, too, so I'm sure it will only become more of a favorite once the baby is home.
I love this nursery! So much of what was done here is pure creativity–from the quilt, to the poang chair cover, to the valances, and the matching doll bed. So much thought has been put into color, texture, pattern and just plain fun. The nursery appeals not only to grown-ups but more importantly, will be an awesome place for any kid to hang! Everything about this nursery screams originality–not bought from a design store or copied from a design magazine–just pure creative brain power! Way to go!

Lovely. My favorite of this contest. I second everything findalicia said. Baby O's mom and dad are obviously very resourceful, not afraid of a little DIY action, and have great eyes for color and pattern. Reminds me a little of my own kids' rooms, only much neater :) Best of luck in the contest and the adoption!

A beautiful nursery! It has a fresh, crisp look along with loads of cheerful, fun-loving touches. Full of personality. I love all the handmade items -- the quilt, the valances, the chair cover, and especially the little baby bed. What a happy place for Baby O!

My favorite! I also like the creativity used to make this nursery. I get tired of seeing nurseries that look good only because they have thousands of dollars worth of expensive baby furniture in them. In the first photo, is that a growth chart hanging to the left? Is it homemade (if not, where can I find one)? I wish this one would have won.

dcmom- don't worry, the contest isn't over yet! :) the winner will be announced on friday. here's a link to the growth chart.

The colors here are soooo vibrant! This room looks like a place you could spend all day in and feel perfectly content and at peace. You've created a nursery straight out of a fairy tail :) Excellent work!

i agree, DonkerDink!! i can imagine how fun and soothing it would be to spend time with Baby-O in this room. fun and soothing don't always go together, either, but they definitely do in this room. the quilt is absolutely beautiful and will make a rich heirloom for your daughter. i love how this room is childlike at heart.

You created with your fabric choices a perfect compliment to the wall color and accessories. I especially like the black picture frames against the aqua walls. The room sparkles. Lucky Baby O!

This is a delightful, fresh, and peaceful room for sleep and quiet play. I love the use of "organization" with your book shelves, and the many handmade "with love" items to pull the nursery's color scheme together.
While viewing the pictures, I envision you dreaming of your little one so very far away as you carefully, protectively, and blissfully created baby O's room. Good luck----you are my favorite!

I think this nursery has the best color scheme, it's very balanced in both color and design. In addition, all the home made touches make this room extra special!

While this room is nice, I feel like I need to address many of the comments, like DC Mom who stated, "tired of seeing nurseries that look good only because they have thousands of dollars worth of expensive baby furniture in them."
This is a COLORS contest, not a contest on expensive furniture. So don't be a hater!!
That being said, this room is nice, but I don't think its grounbreaking: its powder blue and white with a few accents. In my humble opinion, I think there are other finalists that really break ground in color and design. To me, this is nice, but ho hum.
Just my $0.02

I disagree with brooklynsails' comment. The purpose of the contest as stated by Apartment Therapy is "the most beautiful use of color" not ground breaking or radical use of color.
Furthermore, their website mission statement says: Creating this home doesn't require large amounts of money or space. It requires inspiration, connection to resources and motivation to do something about it.
I don't see how you can look at this nursery and see only blue and white with a few accents–every picture, every textile, every surface is exploding with color, pattern and texture. I don't see blue and white, I see COLOR!

findalicia, you beat me to the punch ;)

Well, I usually try not to post comments that could be construed as negative, especially about other people's nurseries, created with such love that I hate to criticize those efforts. However, I just wanted to say that I agree with Brooklynsails.
I like this room and think it's beautiful. There is so much to admire in the parents' craftiness and design, everything from the matching doll bed to the chair print to the detail of the bookcase wall painted/wallpapered green. But though color is everywhere in the accessories, I don't think this is the most amazing use of color. Perhaps the problem is that I was looking for bold, innovative and creative uses of color from rooms in this contest. It seems we all have different interpretations of what "the most beautiful use of color" is supposed to be.

Do I see Archie and Olive (from Wee Wonderfuls) on the shelves? :)

yep, mandykittie! you do! i skipped the faces, but that's hillary's pattern... :) they're the perfect size for the ikea doll bed, too!

i love this room! it's soothing yet inspiring, and won't become wearying to the eye and spirit. i love the shade of blue on the walls and the way the accents spark up the space, and i love the creativity behind the window treatments and chair cover. most of all, i love that this room illustrates that you don't need to spend a ton on furniture to make a room memorable! i also think it looks like a room for a child, as opposed to a room for parents determined to show off their Taste.
good luck with the adoption!

Wow, this nursery is truly my favorite. I just love all the colors that compliment each other. I can tell that a lot of work was put into this beautiful room. You must be very creative! I also love how "crisp" the room looks.

jenmolson, I couldn't agree more. The room looks so beautiful. The creator of this space used colors spectacularly.
I am surprised by brooklynsails' comment, "its powder blue and white with a few accents." If all you see is powder blue and white you may have one of three problems. 1. you may have to adjust your computer monitor, 2. you may not know the definition of color, or 3. you don't have your eyes open. I am not saying your stupid, perhaps you just weren't listening when color was discussed in kindergarden. Here's a link to the definition of color provided by Yahoo! dictionary. I see about every imaginable color in the first photo alone.
Also, I am impressed by your boldness to leave the first negative comment on a person's nursery post and call other people haters... wait no I'm not.

I think this nursery displays the most amazing use of color! You can see every color of the rainbow in each photo, but instead of being overwhelming, the room gives off such a sense of peace and charm. I'm so impressed with how much is handmade, and what a gorgeous room was created on a shoestring budget. It's obvious that this room was designed with such thoughtfulness and love. How happy Baby O will be growing up in this room!

I love this nursery. The use of colour is natural and yet sophisticated, charming, graceful -- it is not matchy or forced, but rather, like a melody, with different colours hitting different notes, all resulting in a beautiful, harmonious, song. Lovely. (definitely my favourite)

I have to say that the comments that are calling this an average color scheme, or "ho-hum" are quite mistaken. They are obviously only commenting to try and help themselves or another friend win. This room is quite obviously not just "baby blue with white trim". There are a million bright beautiful colors used in a tasteful way. This is very bright and poppy. Great uses of greens and browns throughout. Hot pinks. It reminds me of pop art.
You see, the painful thing about those commenting negatively is their comments sound completely uneducated. "great color" is about balance and contrast and a great number of other variables, which you executed beautifully. Makes me feel like I'm in sunny California ;-)

I love this room, is that mobile hand made? It looked like a collection of art postcards or something. If it is thats a great idea.
The room feels so fresh and full of life, I hope you get to fill it soon.
