Affordable Mid-Century Style Rocker

2009-11-midcrocker.jpg

An attractive rocking chair that doesn't break the bank is a tall order and one of the questions we get asked the most here at Ohdeedoh. As long as this one is comfortable for nursing and storytime it may be the answer to a lot of your prayers and for less than $300.

This mid-century style rocker is a new offering from Urban Outfitters and is only available for pre-order so you may want to wait until some first-hand reviews come in before you get your heart set on it. The frame reminds us a bit of Ikea's Lillberg rocker which many of you felt was good for lookin' but less so for sittin' so we're really hoping this turns out to be a good option in the rocker department.

You can find it for $288 here.

This is a really cute chair. However, for first time moms to be out there, I just wanted to mention ...

I bought this really great vintage rocking chair because I just couldn't do the ugly glider. It's really comfortable and was great for nursing, BUT ... like the chair shown, the back is low and therefore, there is no place to put one's head. Which, didn't seem like a big deal at first but is a serious, serious drawback when it's 3 AM, you've had a total of 2 hours of sleep over the course of the last 10 hours and you really, really just want to lean your head back and doze off while rocking your precious bebe.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd suck it up and get the glider with the big cushy headrest.

i feel like there's only 2 routes with a glider. spend as little as possible and get a glider used or for free with the intention of freecycling it (the route i took) or investing in apiece of furniture that will be used for decades.

I have a vintage mid-century rocker identical this, and I didn't use it for baby at all. It was too low, especially after a c-section, and too laid back to comfortably nurse. It ended up just holding stuffed animals in the room.
