The April issue of Real Simple showcases a playroom make-over. We noticed the Alex Drawer unit and thought it was a great solution for storing a child's art supplies, or anything else for that matter.

The playroom in Real Simple (not online yet), uses it as a workspace as well, so a child can paint or do other projects on the surface of it. What's nice about it is that it can easily adapt to a pre-teen and teen's room, or even end up in an office later on. It's $119 at Ikea.
I have one of these and yeah, it rocks for storing papers and craft supplies. I use mine in my sewing studio. The wide shallow drawers allow me to store my fragile papers flat or with just a few folds and keep each project's fabric pieces together. I added a heat proof mat to the top so that I can also use it as an ironing board. When I'm done for the day, it wheels back under my desk. I love it.

I have one of these in my art studio and it is handy for storing smaller art paper, prints, and drawings. It's an inexpensive alternative to flat files if the smaller size works for you. I have a 20-shelf spring-loaded drying rack on top to store wet work. My space is quite small so I love being able to wheel it out of the way when needed.
