Create a playroom, and then fold it away. That's the idea behind Cubo, created by Dutch design and furniture makers Laphoeff Design. The Cubo is a jewel box - open it up to reveal the reading, playing, napping nook, the desk area and storage area.

Close it back up to instantly hide the mess. Cubo's outerskin is covered in chalkboard paint, giving tots another way to enjoy Cubo. Made of MDF and wood, Cubo costs about €500 (sans accessories).

We also like this built-in bunkbed pink number. Look how the ladder is incorporated into the structure of the beds. It looks like it has to be custom made to fit your dimensions.

especially being that bright pink colour, the "cubo" reminds me of the barbie suitcase/wardrobe/closets i had when i was a kid... it seems like a cool concept except that when it's closed you have a giant box that you have to figure out what to do with.

If I had a huge loft with tons of open space I'd get one. But that would make the world's chunkiest chalkboard when closed and my apartment couldn't handle it. I like their other designs, thanks for the link.

Some useful observations above on the limitations of the Cubo design. But I love the idea! I could see someone with some carpentry skills coming up with an alternative that involves pop-up walls so that the closed structure was 'collapsed' to a size that could be used as a seating area.

Thanks for the inspiration!
