Look! Old Dresser Makeover

2009-01-29-before.jpg

We recently wrote about replacing knobs on a plain or old dresser to give it a new look. We saw this great dresser/changing table makeover at Design Sponge. It's a dramatic example of repurposing an older piece of furniture for the nursery. Jump below for the amazing after shots...

The color combination is terrific - we love the surprise of another pop of color when the drawers are opened up. But our favorite feature is the cutout handles. It really gives the old dresser a completely different look.

can you believe how terrible the quality of kids furniture is these days? i guess they dont expect it to last anyway since its being used in a kids room. ive had the same dresser in my bedroom for all of my 26 years. it looks great! the original color is wearing off, but hey, its the real deal.. built solid.

That is fantastic! Love all of the colors, the fit, and seeing the matching wall and dresser with that pop of color inside.

I completely agree with deeboyayay. I am getting my first baby's nursery ready and a lot of the furniture is the same furniture that I had in my nursery almost 30 years ago--the bookshelves, the dresser, and the rocker. my mother and I (really just my mom) are repainting and reupholstering them but they were used when my parents bought them and they held up nicely through my childhood and I am hoping they will make it through my daughter's.

I love it - how creative and beautiful! I would have never thought to cut out the handles, but it really updates the look. Sort-of a modern yet vintage feel. Very nice!

I'm torn. I don't love the old handles or the new ones (though they're creative). I do like the new colors, but really like the hue and sheen of the natural-finish wood. I constantly have this battle between painted wood and natural. Tips for knowing whether to take the plunge?

What kind of paint did she use? I think it looks fabulous!

this is so amazing. my favorite part is the new drawer pulls. the arch detail on the bottom stands out so more in the after than the before.
