Monarch Nursery Chair

2007_08_27_monarch_chair.jpg"I've got a bad back!" "Oh, you've got a bad attitude!" This was always our favorite exchange in the movie Beaches and we still invoke it to family members when asked to move something heavy. Until you're pregnant or nursing, you may take your back for granted. UK furniture design professor, Dr. Lynn Jones, researched the problem and designed the Monarch Nursery Chair to offer maximum back comfort to nursing mothers.

The ergonomic design offers lumbar support and the curved back helps keep your spine straight. You'll notice how low to the ground the Monarch is which eliminates the need for a nursing stool.

The Monarch is available in 12 colors and with 2 choices for legs. The company claims that the "revolutionary" fabric will wipe clean and is both stain-resistant and waterproof.

We heard about the Monarch via the Daily Stroll. She has added it to her nursery and you can read her firsthand account here.

The Monarch is not cheap - around $750 - but it may be worth it to you if your attitude is fine, but your back hurts. Find a list of retailers here.

It is an attractive chair, and I don't deny that it's probably quite comfortable, but I'd like to see someone try to breastfeed while sitting on it. I always need armrests.

Yeah - form over function for sure! You might be able to do without armrests when your baby is tiny, but after 8lbs or so armrests are essential.
