Reader Tip: Renovation Inspiration

2008_01_16_armoir.jpg

Kelly wrote to show us this very cool closet renovation that she spied in a magazine.

Closet doors can be so boring! Here's a farily cheap and easy way to make the closets the center of a room... saw this in a magazine & thought it was brillant! The designer sketched the "armoire", enlarged it & then traced it onto particle board. It was then cut, painted & hung to replace the conventional closet doors. What a fun idea for any kid's room!

Kelly can't recall which magazine she saw this in (anyone?), but we certainly agree that it's a unique way to embellish an ordinary closet. Check out Kelly's blog here.

*Update*: Kelly reports that the closet transformation comes from the 2007 issue of Storage for Kids' Stuff and was designed by Molly Reid Sinnett.

The faux armoire reminded us of a recent decoupage project in the latest (and last, sniff...) issue of Blueprint. Those crafty folks painted a plain dresser, blew up a piece of clip art and decoupaged it. You may not be able to afford a fancy, carved dresser, but that doesn't mean you can't have one.

Kelly...or anyone who may know...
Not only do I love the closet door idea, but the adoreable stencil that is in the background. It almost looks like picture frame molding with a "squigly" line. Can anyone recommend where I can find a stencil to do such a design?

If you tell me it was done "freehand", I'll be soooo impressed, but sad because I could never pull that off without a stencil!
Thank you!
