Simplicity Rocker & Ottoman

2008-05-01-simplicityrocker.jpg

Finding the right rocker or glider often is a source of anxiety for expectant parents. Lots of modern silhouettes have come to market in recent years but many are accompanied with huge price tags as well. We spotted this clean-lined Simplicity Rocker and Ottoman set online at Target.

No customer reviews yet on the website. The frame is constructed of hardwood with a cherry-stained finish with a non-toxic finish. The upholstery material is "faux-suede." The set goes for $399.99 (available online only).

Does anyone own this rocker? Without having seen it in person, our only initial complaint is that the ottoman doesn't rock with the rocker.

Wow, that is quite nice. It's reminiscent of the Storyworks rocker.

It looks like the bottom half of the seat was chopped off and rockers were put on.

I agree with the last comment. My first thought was that the rocker was missing it's bottom half. We bought one recently from overstock.com and it is perfect in every way.

If this is the same as the new one at babies r us, I was smitten with the look of it.

I took my husband to test it out with me, he sat in it and made this face of horror (I think that's what this unborn baby is going to look like sometimes!!!)

The chair looks good, but it is as heavy as anything so to get that thing rocking is too much effort (my legs were aching from it!)

In terms of the color from the site, it's really not what it looks like, it's more of a light green, the color is actually really nice.

We left the store (disappointed) and without it.

I recently purchased this rocker after seeing it in a brochure at my Target in the baby section. When I asked the sales rep about it, she mentioned that it was available only online and when I looked for it it didn't show up until about 3 weeks ago. I did check out the green one at Babies R Us first to make sure my husband and I liked the proportions and comfort of it. Unfortunely, Babies R Us only carries the green one, not the khaki Target one. Since we wanted a rocker that fit into our bedroom decor we opted to buy the Khaki-colored Target one. With a 25% off furniture special and shipping it come out to $511 . The shipping was really fast, it came in about 2 days. My husband build it in about 35 minutes. You just add the legs to the rocker and ottoman. If you do order it, the color is not khaki but rather a "buttercream" color. The legs are a dark amber. I'd be happy to take a picture of it if anyone is interested in seeing the real, true color. The material is a faux suede, but you can tell that it can easily be cleaned in case you get any spills on it. As far as rocking, it doesn't have the intense rocking that we are used to seeing on other gliders and rockers, but I liked it because it has more of a gentle rock, which is what I prefer (other rockers are too intense and make me dizzy). It's not quite too firm or too cushiony, it's has more of a meduim firmness too it, but comfortable. Plus, my husband likes to use it to read when I'm not using it- so that was another plus. I'm petite, 5'4 and it fits me perfect- that is something else to consider - if you can check out the one at Babies R Us first to make sure you like the proportions. And yes, it does have a very modern feel to it, similar to the high end rockers we looked into like the Nurseryworks Sleepytime Rocker ($1000 ) but for half the price.

Thanks for the detailed comments, pzgirl and shel. You saved me a trip to Babies R Us to check it out!

I saw the Babies R Us one in person. I didn't like the green. It was a muted, sage green. I think a lot of people would like it, but I found it boring.

pzgirl, thanks for the detailed comment... do you mind taking a picture of the "buttercream" rocker. We were about to pull the trigger, but now we are not sure. Thank you
