Wal-Mart Goes Modern

1.18.07 Wal mart cribIt’s official: modern baby has made it mainstream. Wal-Mart has introduced a line of nursery furnishings called Modern Nursery that looks surprisingly sleek while still staying within the company’s usual affordable product range.

The Roxanne crib ($299.88) is made of pine, with all the expected features: drop side, teething rail, and two drawers under the crib (handy for blankets and extra sheets). The crib comes with an optional toddler bed conversion kit.

Also in this line is a changing table ($249.88), dresser ($249.88), very mid-century modern looking Bentwood Egg Chair ($34.72), and Tulip 4-piece crib linen set ($79.95) that is reminiscent of Dwell baby bedding.

Available only online, it should give affordable baby furniture competitors IKEA and the new CUB line by Netto Collection a run for their money.

Wow... if I were in need of a crib, I would be forgetting all about my Wal-Mart boycott long enough to order this furniture collection.

HeHe! I'm with you, Erin!! I HATE walmart... but...hmmmm!!

Too bad this stuff wasn't out 3 years ago when I had my first baby.... it was either traditional/country or SUPER expensive modern pieces. I opted for the least expensive. blah. (but I DID modern it up with my choices of fabrics, etc..)

We ordered it! We are awaiting the arrival of our adopted daughter, so while we wait we have been putting her room together. I shopped and shopped and shopped (all on line) and I accidently stumbled on this crib. I was shocked that it was at Walmart...when I went to order it was sold out. It recently became available again, so as soon as we got the email we bought the crib and the dresser and the toddler rail. It has the modern look we wanted for a fraction of the cost of other cribs we were looking at. My guess is now that Apartment Therapy found out about it, it will sell out quickly again!

It's still not THAT sleek! Yes at first glance it is, but when you look at the finer details like the end part of the crib, it has country meets modern!

Victoria is right, it really isn't that sleek. It's actually a combo of two colors that DaVinci sells elsewhere.

Look out for the cute and modern ORGANIC COTTON infant/toddler apparel collection (under the George label) to hit Wal-mart stores in July! It's so cute! I should know, I helped design it :)

We are thinking of buying this -- but are curious what those who have bought it think about it's quality, durability, etc? Any feedback?

We ordered the crib and the bureau. I will let you know what we think of them when they arrive (hopefully next week). I could also post some better pictures if that helps!

Yes, please do post some pix (particular of the sides, which are not displayed on the website) and anything you feel would be helpful to know (i.e., did it arrived damaged, quality of construction, does it appear to conform to the U.S. safety standards, etc). Many thanks!

I'm also thinking of buying this crib but couldn't find any info about manufacturer (walmart?), safety, durability, etc. It does come with a one year warranty.

Has anyone used this before? I really liked this one and would love to order it, but was not sure about the quality. Is it as good as it seems on the pics?

I'm not a Wal-mart shopper, but I love the look of this collection. Elizabeth is right - it can be found in a variety of finishes through other online retailers, just not in the 2-color mix. I called Wal-Mart & they confirmed that the crib is made by "Million Dollar Baby," which is known as Da Vinci online.

I am wondering where others have seen this type of crib at this price in other colors through online retailers. I'd love to find a single color one!
Thanks

Hey there!
I spotted the Baby Mod Nursery Collection by accident! So, glad I did by the way. But when I spotted it- I immediatly told my husband we needed to buy it. He said lets wait until after our ultrasound (whether a boy or girl) and then we will buy it and the bedding at the same time. Well, 5 days later after our ultrasound (It's a BOY!) I go to purchase it and the crib was out of STOCK! I was so disappointed but am determined I will get the crib in time. I bought the changing table, light/lamp, bentwood chair, bedding but 1.5 months later and the crib is still out of stock! I have checked everyday and have submitted more than 5 of our email address's in hopes it will come back in stock. Walmart and the Manufacturer: MillionDollarBaby don't have any timeframe or details of when or if they will carry it again. So, if any one is selling theirs or knows a way to get the crib- I have approx 3 months before I have to settle on some other crib - please email me: wsa@windyskystormy.com if you have any details/information. I'd appreciate it. I read on one of the comments that "Tracy" got an email but I wonder how many months it took for it to come back in stock or how long she waited. Oh, well. We'll see. Thanks! -Windy Sky from Houston, Tx

Can anyone please tell me if the mattress of this crib has different positions or does it stay always at the same position?

Thanks.

has anyone actually gotten this crib? I was hoping to get it and post my opinion, but have been painfully dealing with Walmart since early May. After checking religiously for when it was due back in stock (i did sign up to be notified when it was back in stock, but still have never received a notification), I ordered as soon as it was available. Then the crib was mistakenly shipped to a store in another state. I followed up a weeks lor so later and was told it was lost, and they'd credit my account which had already been charged, which took several days, and was offered free shipping to my house when I reordered. I just reordered, and was told they'd have to charge me for shipping and reimburse me separately. The crib is supposed to arrive in 1-3 weeks, no option to get it any faster. we'll see...
i probably should have trusted my anti-walmart instinct...maybe the reason the Oeuf costs more is you actually get a crib delivered to you.

Hi everyone! I wanted to purchase this crib and changing table for quite some time, but was nervous that I could not find any information on the quality. Well, I took a shot and ordered it since the return policy seemed pretty reasonable. So far we have only received the changing table (the crib should arrive tomorrow), and I have to say the quality is pretty good. The changing table seems very sturdy and the drawers guide smoothly. Assembly instructions were not included with the shipment however, and when I contacted Wal-Mart's customer service, they directed me to the manufacturer's webiste, www.milliondollarbaby.com. Having had the experience of being directed somewhere only to find that the information was not there, I had the representative stay on the line. Sure enough, the assembly instructions for this particular model were not there. Actually, there is no mention of the Roxanne line on their website! But I did print the directions for the Emily 3-drawer Changer off of their site, and those worked. Still waiting on a response from the manufacturer, so I don't know what their recommendation will be. Hopefully the crib will come with instructions. Overall, I am greatly pleased. If the crib is not up to par, I will be sure to post back!

hi,

I'm searching high and low for an affordable crib that is modern looking. I'm looking into buying this crib and dresser. Please anyone who has purchased it, post with comments..because Walmart does not have any cribs on display. Speficially-- quality of wood? color? does it really look modern in person? sturdy?

One advantage I have noticed about this crib is that it has a drop side. None of the modern cribs, even the really expensive ones, feature a drop side. I'm told it's very helpful when the baby gets bigger.

Thanks!

I purchased this crib and the dresser, which we use as a changing table. I bought these items back in March and so far am very happy with them. The crib has a nice, clean look for the price. It is constructed of pine, so it doesn't have as solid a feel as, say, a solid cherry crib--I'm hoping this doesn't become an issue when my Little Guy is 2 and tearing the place apart. The colors are true to the photos. I think it was easy to assemble--my brother-in-law put it together without complaint. The mattress height is adjustable and it comes with the plastic rail guards to prevent bite marks. My biggest issue with it was the high cost of shipping, but now I understand that Wal-Mart does site-to-store shipping for free. Ours was delivered by truck to our house due to the weight, which worked out nicely and it was delivered when promised.

Wal-Mart also has the "Park Lane" crib and dresser series from BabyMod/Million Dollar Baby ... we ordered them and are very pleased with the quality, as well as the free Site-to-Store shipping (no problems here with misplaced orders). For photos of the crib and dresser in action, check www.eloquacious.com.
