Nursery Tour: Nina's Bright Vintage Room

102909dresser1.jpg

Name: Nina
Age: One month
Location: Montreal

Mom Marie was initially inspired by the turquoise color of an old bathroom cabinet she found at a flea market, and the rest of the room took off from there. She threw in a bunch of toys passed down from grandmothers and parents, and created a room that exudes character.

Inspiration:
The great taste of swedish people : Dos Visit by Dos Family, the good finds of KenziePoo, the ideas of LMNOP magazine and the guts to mix bright colors and the love of thrifts by Bitsandbobbins .

Favorite Element: Before starting to work on the room I found the turquoise bathroom cabinet in a flea market and fell in love with it. I already saw the future: my little one hiding her treasures in the small compartiments inside. It was a sign; I had to use that palette (my favorite one) for the room -not the classic pink for girls.  I thought that my baby girl could ask for a pinky girly room if she wants it when she get older and enjoy it better.  Meanwhile, she would have a colorful, vivid room that mixes vintage with new and shows objects full of history and soul  (greatgrandmother's green tote bag, grandmother's Becassine book, mom and dad's plush toys....).

Biggest Challenge: Using a ot of different and bright colors without losing the palette and getting too "rainbowish"....

What Friends Say: Nina will love it!!!

Proudest DIY: My drawing...

Biggest Indulgence:  We use a lot of recycled items and the room was pretty cheap to put together... Now that we saved some bucks there's a few pieces of art I'd like to have... like the whole collection of Kid Acne Rolling Stock mini vinyl's figures and some wall stickers from here, but I don't know which ones yet!!

Best advice: Follow your instinct and don't be afraid to use boyish wall color for a girl!!

Dream source: The Curiosity Shoppe and Magic Pony.

Resources: Thrifts store, Flea Market and gifts from my family ( rocking chair).

Thank you for sharing Marie. The special objects passed down from family members will definitely be treasured by Nina as she grows up. Your friends are right- Nina will love it!

This is nice, but I wish there were more photos of the room and less photos of each thing.

Mon dieu ! My daughter's name is Nina, we live in Montreal and my name is Marie. How curious is that ?! And ever since I started decorating my baby's nursery about a year ago, I have been wanting to post pictures of her room on this website but the pictures would never do the room justice... I guess Nina's mom Marie, from Montreal, got to do it for us. And it is great and colorful and original. Bravo !

Agree with Hollie, I don't get a sense of the room.

Marie clearly has awesome style but I'd love to get more decor ideas than just lovely vignettes.

Love the yellow bureau!
