Simple elegance. Those are the two words which can be used to describe Maddie’s room. An ice cream palette of yellows and pinks with classic furniture are what’s behind the look of this space.
Maddie’s room is the creation of her mom Sarah who tells us:
“This room has come together in several stages. The shelves and window seat were part of a birthday re-do. We installed everything after she had left for school and it was ready and waiting for her when she came home. We have four kids, so we couldn't afford to do everything at one time...but doing it in stages has kept Maddie excited about creating her space and keeping it tidy!"
The 14 x 12 room seems more than ample enough with a dresser, lovely window seat (which is Maddie's favorite part of the space, "...it makes the room cozy."), twin bed and several small touches. The room seems even brighter with Behr’s Song of Summer paint.
Of course, decorating a bedroom is a whole other ball of wax as the input is mutual -- parents can share ideas as well as the children. Sarah tells us that Maddie picked out the paint color and bedding and insisted she wanted a cushion for the window seat.

Among the specific items in the room are some flower hooks from Target, bedding from Pottery Barn Kids, the bedroom set from Pottery Barn, the fuzzy chair from Amazon and curtains from Ikea. The cross-stitched rabbit, in the green frame, was made by Maddie’s aunt.
Finally, when we asked Sarah for advice for the ‘tween or teen parents on how to approach the decorating process, she said:
“I think the important thing is to keep it simple. I prefer kids' rooms (and adult rooms for that matter) to be free from distracting clutter. With that being said, teens like, and perhaps need, to display memorabilia. The shelves, a white board, and a small bulletin board keep her photos and special items corralled to a few areas around the room.
I like Maddie's room because it is pretty and peaceful, which is a nice place to return to after the trials of junior high."
Thank you for sharing, Maddie and Sarah!
So pretty and easy to adapt as tastes change. Love all the "M"s and the simplicity of the items on the shelves. The poster looks much more like art framed and I like that it can easily be switched too.

I love her room, and the twilight photo just adds the perfect level of teen feeling to the room (though I'm not a teen and I love it too)

Love it, love the yellow and pink with all the white furnishings and blinds. Very fresh and clean looking.
The cushion is great, did you make it? I love that you let Maddie in on the planning and decorating so it would truly feel like her room. These skills will come in handy someday when she is planning her own space in a home, apt.

Great job Sarah! And yes, she made the cushion from a Jessica Jones fabric: Red/Orange Calliope, that is now also available in two more colorways!

lovely lovely room... if you're still checking in on your post, can you tell me how your daughter is enjoying her window seat? I can't tell the depth of the seat from the pictures - there's a similar ledge in my daughter's bedroom, and I've been debating whether or not it's deep enough to function with a cushion. Love the colors in the room - very inspiring!

I too have the red/orange calliope fabric that I am having made for my custom crib bedding. I am due in a month and would love to know what brand name and color yellow paint you used to coordinate with the jessica jones fabric??? So fun seeing this.
