Mini Nursery Tour: Amelie and Zoe's Room

adriennetourTOPPIC.jpgOhdeedoh reader Adrienne recently e-mailed us wanting to share her daughter’s room. Stating its creation was a family project (contributors include Adrienne, her husband Kevin, 3-year-old Zoe and 10-month-old Amelie) the room is the culmination of her design style which she describes as, "function, family and fun."

Adrienne tells us:

"I am always in love with some of the children’s rooms I see online and in magazines, but I often wonder how some of the rooms actually function for small children. When placing items in Zoe and Amelie's room, I wanted each item to be easy for them to get to and if something were to break it wouldn't be an expensive loss. Kids (even little girls) at this age play a bit rough, so function is very important. The next element of this room is family."

"My husband and I are both only children, so we are very close to our families. So, when we decided to re-do this room, using a lot of gifts that were from grandparents were simply a must! And the last 'F', FUN! I wanted this room to be as fun as possible, without going overboard. I painted the closet door with chalkboard paint and it is a huge hit for the girls (and the occasional adult as well!) Most of the furniture is pushed against the wall allowing maximum play space in the middle of the floor."

Items in the room include bedding from Target, DIY tutus and pillows, Adrienne’s childhood bed, Valspar chalkboard paint, and the wall paint is Behr’s “Fairest of the Them All” which is part of the Disney paint line.

Her design advice to us is "…take your time with the design process. Home decorating is an ever evolving process. Feel free to mix old with new, expensive and thrifted. Keep things you wouldn't want broken out of reach of little hands! Look for as many deals as you can! Keep it FUN! Use lots of color and imagination! No space is too small, this room is very tiny but we just moved around furniture until it all worked. Oh, and check out Ohdeedoh daily for inspiration."

Wonderful!! We have a little Zoe too! She is 13 months now. We are collecting "Z"s for her room. Where did you find your great letters making up Amelie's and Zoe's names?

If my son had been a girl, he would have been a Zoe as well:)

Very cool - charming, unique & uplifting without being too studied! Love the chalkboard door. And I agree about maximizing playspace...I considered putting an activity table in the middle of my toddler's room but in the end left it open for rolling around, opening up a tent, you name it. It was one of the best decisions I made!
