Mini Tour: Miles and Andrew's Bright and Airy Space

Here's a wonderful space to rev up your engines for our Small Kids, Big Color contest. This room is a classic example of an instance where, if you were to be presented with just the fabric swatches and paint chips that went into it, you could never visualize it all working -- but then magically it does!

Miles and Andrew's parents made pretty much everything in this room, right down to the bunk beds and built-in cupboards and shelves. And what they didn't make was thrifted or a hand-me-down.

Says Miles and Andrew's mom, Galadriel:

The place looked like a cave when we bought the house. Now that we are done, the boys want to repaint the place to make it look like outer space!

Hopefully they'll leave it as is for just a little while longer. Thanks for sharing, Galadriel!

I've always loved this room. The perfect kind of 'Fort' feeling.

Just plain cool. This is a warm, funky, cozy, homey boy space. I would have loved a room like this. Well done.

Love this room. It's reminiscent of lakeside cottages but with more personality.

This is ideal. Any kid would love to live here. I would love to live here and I'm an old lady!

Oh my god this is one of my favorite kids' rooms I've ever seen. I wish it was MY room, forget the kids! The furnishings are so outside my style zone I would never think that I wanted, for example, a plaid armchair, but when I see it here I just love it!! So warm, homey, woodsy and sort of magical!

This is FABULOUS!

We're a large family moving into a small house (1800 square feet 5 kids) and we're going to be renoing an attic into shared kid space. I had this image in my head of what we could do with the space and this just hits EVERYTHING!

I'm so excited now!

The reason this is so cool is because it's homey, not Target bedding, not matchy-matchy, and yet it's comfortable and uncluttered and warm.
I have such a girl crush on Galadriel.

Love that fabric on the armchair! The exaggerated plaid is perfect in that room.

The built-ins and bead board really help to make this room, too. Two subtle design elements with huge impact.
