apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

My Room: Baby R
Sydney, Australia

Viv sent us these photos of the very beautiful nursery she put together for her son. She writes: The room was originally dark and depressing with a black built-in wardrobe and an outdoor light fitting installed (go figure?). My husband and I painted the room white and swapped out the light fitting with something more sensible. The colour inspiration for the room was taken from a toadstool print bought from Etsy. The red colour then flowed from there....

...the red 'circus silhouette' wallpaper by Catherine Martin, the elephant design on the cot sheets, toys and antique chair. Even though we knew we were having a boy we didn't want to create a space that screamed "This is a boy's room!".

The room ties in well with the rest of the house and my son loves looking at the wallpaper print. It's saved me on many an occasion when I can't seem to settle him. Hope you like it and thanks for looking!

Thanks, Viv!

feels a bit sterile, or like a museum display of a nursery. but i like the crib sheets alot.

Love. It's a room that can grow with the child -- and I don't think it's sterile, i think it's just waiting for the personality of it's new occupant.

Wow - I didn't realise this was up here until one lovely reader left a comment on my blog. I forgot I sent in these photos.

This is probably the neatest this room has ever been. It now has toys scattered all over the place as it should I think.

Thanks everyone. Hope you like it. And thank you Ohdeedoh for posting this :)

Very very pretty and I LOVE that its not cluttered and overstimulating like most nurseries you see in the US.

I think the wall work is from this company:

i have that cariboo bassinet and my three week old refuses to sleep in it! did you have a similar experience?

laurenroberts - Oh no, I didn't have a problem with my son. He is still sleeping in it and he's 4 months old now.

hhitchc - are you referring to the wallpaper? Not sure if there is a stockist in the US. I bought it from Porters Paints in Sydney.

Thanks again everyone :)

Where did you get your sheet set & light shade? I'm doing a red & white room too (don't know the sex)

I bought the sheet set from Cradle Rock (www.cradlerock.com.au). It's by Nest Nursery. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that site stocks them any more. The light shade from Freedom Furniture (www.freedom.com.au). All the best with your decorating MBBN.
