Kristina sent us photos of her son Rheon's creatively designed room. She says:
Having just gotten married months before Rheon's arrival, we were facing two challenges when planning the nursery: a tight budget and a small space (the nursery shares space with the office). We started by adding pieces of furniture and accessories that complemented our creative style and were also not costly. The crib, change table, armoir, bookcase and shoe closet were all Craigslist finds. The paintings by the crib were handmade by me to add colour to the chocolate brown walls...
My favourite piece in the nursery is the mobile that hangs above the crib which was also handmade by me. It was the most simplest and thriftiest project. It only required birds to be hung to a branch.
The curtain rod was a tree branch that was spraypainted and hung to allow for the curtain which were also handmade to be hung.
We want Rheon to embrace the arts and live creatively. Whatever career he chooses to pursue, we hope that art will also be a part of his life.
After completing Rheon's nursery, we were happy having designed a cozy and warm nursery on a tight budget.
We are hoping that soon, Rheon will create his own masterpieces that we can hang on his walls.

I like the branch. The rest of the room looks very much like a nursery-office combo. I suspect that the nursery will gradually take over the office until the parents give up and move their stuff out into the garage or somesuch.
At least, that's what happened out our house ;)

i like the labeled bins on the changing table. are they iron-ons? i'm big on labeling and i love typography don't know why i didnt think of iron-ons for some projects

I love that this room looks like a real nursery, and not something out of a catalogue. Wonderful curtain rod idea. And I love the wall art, especially the red, polka dot toadstool-roofed house.
IMHO, the armoir would look much better if it were painted red, or perhaps white.

Kristina: I like the bedding and changing table cover. Is that hanging storage pockets I see hanging over the side the crib? Did you make them yourself? If not - where did you get them?

The curtain rod was very simple to make. I found that spray paint was better to use than paint. It has a nice shine to it.
The letters for the change table bins are foam letter stickers from the dollar store.
The hanging storage by the crib was handmade by me.

Yes Hush, please paint the armoire. That tree-branch mobile is going to be a problem, I promise. I'd recommend hanging it in a low-traffic area of the room. Pretty crib. Couldn't the blue laundry basket go under it? Same thing for the Bumbo seat.

By the way, that's not a full-size crib, is it? One of the wooden portables? If so, excellent choice. That's what I've used for both my boys. They work just fine, even though my guys are on the big side and outgrow it by 18 mos. Then they go to a toddler bed. I'm not a fan of those gargantuan cribs, esp for folks who don't have large spaces.

thanks but i would rather not paint the armoir. its a vintage piece and the quality would diminish if painted white.
no, the basket and bumbo cant go under the crib because the crib has drawers at the bottom. btw, the crib is full sized. its convertible also...goes up until teenager ages.
