Name: Fenix
Location: Seattle, Washington
Strong and soft. Bold and understated. Fenix's room is a nice balance of a strong wall color combined with soft touches throughout. We found Fenix’s room on Flickr and his mother, Reese was more than happy to share their room with us.
When asked about her design style, Reese replied, "Our design style and philosophy can be summed up as simple and clean with a touch of whimsy. We prefer furniture with basic clean lines and enhance a space with artwork and hand made accessories that we buy or make ourselves."
"For Fenix's room we really wanted a space that didn't scream nursery. We want him to feel comfortable in that space whether he is 2- or 12-years-old. We went for a really dark color on the walls because we felt it would make the room feel warm and we didn't want to go with the standard nursery blue, yellow or green."

The walls are painted with Behr's Breakfast Blend in a satin finish and Reese ties the entire room together with the green accessories throughout from the green curtains she made herself, down to the small accessories on the window sill: the chime green balls, piggy bank and wooden lion.
Among the other items in the nursery include a wooden hamper and white sheer curtains from Ikea and the adorable flags, which were made by a friend using fabrics from Repro Depot
We asked Reese for any advice she may have on how to approach the nursery decorating process....
"Identify 2 or 3 things that you will draw on for inspiration and refer to those when you are putting the room together. I also would say that it would be great to avoid the matchy-matchy nursery style that's so
popular. Combine old and new pieces from different sources to make the room look unique. No need to spend tons of cash because you can put together a really cool room for very little money."
Thank you, Fenix and thank you, Reese!
Very nice! The more brown walls I see the more I like them for kids' rooms.

You know that it's a safety hazard to put a crib next to a window especially one with curtains?

hey joebelt!
i'm very aware of this. but fenix hasn't actually slept in his room yet (we cosleep) when he is actually sleeping in his room i'll move the crib away from the window.

a nursery is more for the parents than the baby and this is one i would love to spend hours in, rocking my baby to sleep. It just has a good tone. i wish we could hear the music you plan in here. I bet it is lovely.

If the baby can't even stand up in the crib yet (to potentially pull down the curtain), I don't see the hazard of a crib near a window unless perhaps you live in an earthquake zone.
