Names: Jackie, Joe
Ages: 4-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son
Location: Washington, DC
Since buying their Mount Pleasant house a year and a half ago, Jackie and Joe have completed many major projects and renovations themselves. With two young children, they spend a lot of time at home and want the house to be minimal yet cozy and warm. The kids currently share a room filled with light, space, and lots of toys...
Favorite Element: the light and air flow. The house was built before air conditioning was invented so air flow works well.
Biggest Challenge: time constraints. I was pregnant when we renovated and moved in.
What Friends Say: How do you have two kids with so little stuff?
Proudest DIY: All of the renovations done by Joe.
Biggest Indulgence: We don't have one, though we have a long lists of indulgences that we want!
Best advice: We've learned to go with things, live in the moment, and enjoy life.
Dream source: An addition the back with a screened-in porch.
Resources: we repurposed a lot of stuff in the house in a new, different, and functional way. The bookshelf is from a DC store that closed a while ago (Sante Fe Style). The bed is Ikea and the crib is from Great Beginnings in Germantown, Maryland. The dresser was Joe's as a kid.
Thanks, Jackie & Joe!

I love the white and wood toy boxes in the corner. I've been looking for something similar - where did you get them?

I love all your space! Can you please tell me the manufacturer of the ride-on toy and easel activity toy?

I love what you did in this room. Combining toys for different sexes and ages looks effortless. I'm expecting my 2nd whom I believe is a girl and will be sharing her brother's room. You have inspired me and made me realize that it can be done with style!
