In addition to the more "fun" aspects of wall stripes and artwork, Luciana installed IKEA PAX closets for great organization and efficiency. She says, "Since baby clothes are so tiny it was a huge waste having just the standard clothes rail to hang those very small outfits and nothing else." We couldn't agree more.

Survey:

Inspiration: I had two colors in mind: orange and hot pink. I started looking for bedding that had these colors. When I saw the wall sticker (by WallCandy Arts) that had both colors, I knew I had to use it. But it wasn’t until I found the bedding with the same colors (by Super Natural Baby) that the rest of the room came together.

Favorite Element: Not 1, but 3: The walls. I love the colors and how it turned out! The art: discovered the artist Sion Lee on Etsy, and he agreed to change some of the background colors, so now it fits perfectly. Cute and modern. The pillows: my mother-in-law made those. We got the fabric together when she came to visit (and helped paint the first room, back when we lived in WA), and then she brought the finished pillows over when Julia was born. She did such a great job, adding the brown trim as the perfect finishing touch.

Biggest Challenge: Finding items that had the colors I was looking for. It’s not easy finding baby items that have bright, bold colors instead of the muted, light baby colors. It’s getting better every year with new brands and choices, but it’s still a challenge.

What Friends Say: They love that her nursery is so cheery. If the room had a feeling, it would be happy.

Proudest DIY: We painted it and applied the stickers ourselves twice. We had her nursery done in the same way when we lived in WA (with in-laws help!) and then re-did it when we moved to Austin (during the weekends while Julia was napping). This room was a bright green (including the ceiling) when we bought the house. It took one coat of primer and 2 coats of paint to cover it.

Biggest Indulgence: The Oeuf furniture set. We fell in love with it and debated for a long time if it was worth buying or not. Since we didn’t find anything with a similar design (and white) that we loved, we ended up purchasing it.

Best advice: Research, research, research! It might take a while but there are just so many new websites these days, smaller brands showing up every day, Etsy sellers that can customize things. If you have something in mind, you can find a way to have it done (or do it yourself). I had purchased a bedding set from Dwell (in different colors, when I thought I wouldn’t find anything with the colors I wanted) that I returned when I found the one by Super Natural Baby. I had never heard of Super Natural at the time (almost 2 years ago), so it's good to keep up with researching.
