Nursery Tour: Little K's Sweet Dreams Room

2009-05-littlek_540.jpg

Child's Name: Little K.
Age: 2
Location: Missouri

We love having a little boy, but when we saw the room Nathalie put together for her daughter, Little K., well - it hurt a little! It's soft and sweet and, in our book, gives "girly" a good name. Little K's room has a magical quality to it without being themey or feeling like a catalog shoot (though it certainly rivals photo-styled rooms in its beauty!). Nathalie has mixed and matched brand name items with vintage, thrifted and handmade pieces with an ease and effortlessness that, frankly, we envy. And it doesn't hurt that she's an amazing photographer and can capture Little K's room in all its glory!

We asked Nathalie to let us in on a few of her secrets:

Inspiration: Wow, with so many of my favorite bloggers out there inspiring me, it is hard to name just one source of inspiration.

Favorite Element: The chandelier in her room. It brings all of the colors together. Plus we love looking at it before she goes to sleep, it is quite magical.

Biggest Challenge: The room is sort of big, so I did not have any challenges per se. However, with a big room it takes a little bit more to make an impact. I'm not a fan of too much, but am not a minimalist either. I like just the right combination. If this makes any sense at all.

What Friends Say: Oh and Aww! They love coming to see her room.

Proudest DIY: I have made quite a few things for the room. But what I like the most is the pink mirror. I had sitting around for quite some time. I spray painted it and made a garland to dress it up. Everyone loves the result!

Biggest Indulgence: Definitely the Pottery Barn bedding and rug. Second was the chandelier, also from Pottery Barn Kids. The chandelier did not have all of the beads around it. I strung them in a fishing line and wrapped around it.

Best advice: Don't overdo and keep walls in a light color.

Dream source: Umm, I would be lying if I did not say Pottery Barn Kids.

Resources: Some things in the room came from Pottery Barn, some from Target, and some are vintage finds. I try to mix up the old and the new.

Thanks for sharing Little K's room with us, Nathalie! Readers, you can find more inspiration from Nathalie and stop by and say hello on her blog, Kennedy & Friends.

Oh, so sweet--I love it. That's almost the exact color I painted my daughter's room (we have all white furniture, too), and I love seeing girls' rooms in blue. I think it lets you throw in a little pink and sweetness without it getting too painfully girly, and is also a good base for other pops of color, just as you've done. Nice job!

Magical is a great word for Little K's room. It is incredibly charming and she looks so sweet sleeping in it. Color palette reminds me of Necco candy and I mean that as a compliment!I love that chandelier, those clogs (red really pops off pale blue wall), the way you hung her little dresses, the whole room is perfect to me!

I would LOVE to know the paint brand and color! My nursery that I am currently working on has a very similar feel to it and I am currently knee-deep in paint swatches looking for the perfect pale pale robin's egg blue!

This room is just beautiful! It looks so thoughtfully done and real girly retreat for your daughter.

I would love to know how you made the garland around the mirror. Also, the paint color is very sweet.

thanks to all of the wonderful comments on my daughter's bedroom! this really is a pretty magical place for us! so here are some answer's to the questions:
1- paint color: Innocence by Benjamin Moore, I used the Aura line.
2- post pictures of the room layout. maybe soon. i use a prime lens so no zoom and the room is big but not big enough to step out far enough to get the entire picture. so sorry for the close ups.
3- garland around the mirror. super easy. take two 3 inch square of fabric and two 3 inch squares of heat n bond paper. iron heat n bond paper to wrong side of both fabric pieces, wait to cool, pill off paper back, now place both fabric pieces wrong side together and iron again. this will give you a nice flexible fabric. draw your design with mark-b-gone pen, cut the design and make a small little hole in the middle so you can "thread" the yarn though. now repeat it about 50 or so times, thread them all and tie the ends. et voila!
i hope this answers come of the questions!!!
