Nursery Tour: Nina Lou's Falling Waters

Nina-Lou-1.jpgChild’s name: Nina Lou, almost three
Location: Ville La Grand, France

If we were to try to describe - without showing you pictures - a child's room that combines a '70s wall mural and period French furniture with influences from Verner Panton and Hello Kitty, you'd probably raise a skeptical brow. We wouldn't blame you. On paper it sounds like an implausible mix. Fortunately, we have photos, letting you see for yourself that not only do these elements work, they're fresh and fun and childlike.

Nina Lou’s parents have lived in their house for only five months, but you wouldn’t guess it from this very finished-looking space. Nina Lou’s dad, Marc, who also happens to be an architectural artist, gave us a tour of this magical room.

Nina-Lou-2.jpgFor Nina Lou's room, I wanted to create a Romantico-Fresh contemporary ‘70s greeny mood. ;) I took my inspiration from everything around me, and from the web (I really love AT) and magazines like Elle Decor (the Italian and English editions).

Nina-Lou-6.jpgI love the mix of different universes, and I love mixing a Verner Panton chair with a 200-year-old wardrobe which has been in our family for three or four generations. I wanted to use ‘70s wallpaper (maybe I was nostalgic about my childhood) but in a more modern way, so I put it in a corner to destructure the space. We love the modern crib with plexiglass instead of bars, but now we need to change it for a kiddie one.

Nina-Lou-3.jpgWe are very happy with the result, because Nina Lou is so proud to show her bedroom to every person who visits us.

As she should be! Thanks so much for the gracious tour, Marc.

not really my cup of tea...it doesn't seem intentional or thought out...more like this was stuff that was owned so it was all put in one room. Even the art seems hung randomly. But the wardrobe is beautiful.

I agree that is is not my favorite. There are some nice pieces, (the wardrobe is amazing!) but it seems very random and not particularly tasteful.

I think it is BEAUTIFUL! I love how everything is all over the place but still comes together in a very mod-sophisticated-playful way!
