We've always loved the look of black and white with red accents. There's just something so modern and bold about the combination. Parker's room is a great example of how a splash of red can be just the thing to really make black and white sing even more!
Take the full tour after the jump...
Parker's mom, Stacy tells us the entire look of the room was conceived from a duvet cover she purchased at IKEA, which goes to show that one good piece can cause an avalanche of inspiration. We also love how Parker's room is already decked out with a bed for future use. Stacy tells us, "It was great for late night nursings and we love it now for snuggling and reading books before bed. It is ready for him when he's ready for it!"
Stacy tells us more about the room below...

Inspiration:
My little bean, Parker Hayes. We wanted a room that was modern, simple and versatile enough to grow with him. My first purchase was the black and white Barnslig Park duvet cover from IKEA. This is what actually kicked off the entire black and white color scheme.
Favorite Element:
My husband's family is from Ghana, Africa. I loved incorporating some of the traditional cloth and wood carvings from their homeland into Parker's room. Also, being a designer, I love that I can add my own personal touches of art into my home (the canvas art set, silhouette print and the No. 3 print are all mine).
Biggest Challenge:
Sticking to a budget and working with both a crib and a twin bed in the room.
What Friends Say:
They love the color scheme....and that the room "fits him" so well.
Proudest DIY:
Aside from the canvas art set above his dresser, I think the big red "P" was the most fun to make. The cardboard "P" was $3 on the clearance rack at JoAnn Fabrics. I turned it into a project for my 5-year-old and had him paint it for his baby brother. I really love how it looks as part of the photo collage above his bed.

Biggest indulgence:
Honestly, nothing in the room was very expensive at all! The Jenny Lind crib has made its way through all three of my boys and the twin bed and dresser were hand me downs from my middle son, Tyson.
Best advice:
We recently did a gut rehab on the home we are now living in. The single most important thing I did was keep a binder of photos and ideas that I tore out of magazines of anything and everything that looked appealing. It was an invaluable resource for us.
Dream source:
I really, really, really wanted an Eames rocker....and didn't get one. It's still up there on my "dream list."

I would never think of this color scheme for a nursery, but you did a wonderful job. Really lovely!

Hi "lisamfb"...I actually won the Nietzsche letterpress poster from a charity auction. However, you can purchase it from the artist herself "miss cline press" on etsy. (It's also posted in the resources section of the tour).

Oh, that last photo with his sucking his thumb just makes me melt. :)
I really enjoy how you used the African accents to add warmth and texture to his room, and personalized it with so much of your own (really cool) art.
Just one question: what is the foxy J animal? A jackal?

Where can one purchase the flashcards in the second picture of the slideshow? I thought in the resource section they were mentioned as being from Trisha Krauss but I couldn't seem to locate them. I would love a specific link! ;o) Great room~ love the alphabet.

Love it! What is the paint color (and is it more of a blue or a gray)?

Hi everyone,
I have some answers for you:
Fresh Flash Cards -got the flashcards as a gift and I looked all over them to find a website to purchase and all I could find was the name of Trisha Krauss as the illustrator. Possibly you could email her to find out where to purchase?
Paint-it is a Sherwin Williams color and it is called 6248-Jubilee. It is a smoky blue..kind of like the color of the sky before it rains.
Thanks for the comments!

I think the "I Love You" pillow sums this room up nicely.

What a great room! It feels so grown-up, but not TOO grown-up. And cheerful, which can be harder with boy stuff.
And though we have a pretty different look going on, I am in the midst of setting up a twin bed, Jenny Lind crib, and Ikea Hemnes dresser, too, so I'm glad to see how versatile and classic they are.
I don't know why twin beds in baby's rooms aren't more popular...somewhere for me to sleep and nurse in the early days, and somewhere for him to sleep later so we can skip that whole toddler bed scene!

I LOVE the canvas with your son's birthdate on it! Where did you get it or was it one of the ones you did? It's awesome!

I'd love to know where you got the elephant figurines on the dresser. I've been looking for one for quite some time. Thank you! Great room :)
view cagirl's profile
Hi "Cagirl"
Thanks for the compliment :) That little elephant family actually came straight from Accra, Ghana. My mother in law brought them back for me on one of her trips back "home" to Africa. I have seen similar pieces at World Market...and sometimes even Home Goods.

Love the colors, the graphics, just about everything in this room. Looks like a room that would be comfortable through most of his life, just by changing a few accents. Love the African textile and figurine.
