Nursery Tour: Sophia Ann's Celery Stripes

Name: Sophia

Location: Toledo, Ohio

At only four weeks old, Sophia has not enjoyed this nursery for very long yet. But...her parents have decorated a lovely, gender-neutral room that will grow with Sophia so that she can enjoy it for a long time! The striped walls and black and white floral curtains give this room a soft elegance.

Stephanie and Joel steered clear of themes and instead chose furniture, textiles, and bedding from different sources, mixing different stripes, florals, and ginghams. A lot of the items, including the window treatments, were found at Ikea. Other furniture was recycled from around the house. This crib will convert to a toddler and a twin sized bed. We love the mix of polka dots, solids, and ginghams for the bedding.

Stephanie has plenty of room for storage with two bookshelves flanking the crib. We particularly like this sweet bouquet of hand carved tulips from Amsterdam that Sophia's dad, Joel, picked up on one of his business trips. "He claims it was Sophia’s first bouquet of flowers," Stephanie told us. The books on the shelf are Stephanie and Joel's own childhood books.

Another great item from Joel's childhood is this dresser. Used currently as a changing table, it was painted, given updated hardware, and lined with colorful paper. Built in dividers hold diapers, socks, clothing, and bedding.

Congratulations to Stephanie and Joel on their new daughter and welcome to your pretty room Sophia!

Sweet room! I especially like the use of black furniture alongside the softer colors and how the curtains pull it together. I also think the striped walls was smart and gives the illusion of height to that shorter wall.
