What was your inspiration when creating Oscar's room?

One of the meanings of the name Oscar is deer lover so we wanted the room to revolve around great artwork having a mostly animal theme with a nod to a found object/Anthropologie style. I'm continually inspired by blogs, magazines, and books. Some of my favorite blogs for the pint size set include your site (I've been a loyal reader for over a year now), Bloesem Kids, KidHaus, the Cookie Magazine blog, and the online mag - Small.

What challenges did you encounter along the way and how did you surmount them?

Budget was definitely a consideration. We were able to reuse the crib, rug and rocker from my daughter's nursery. We bought most of the artwork from Etsy. Most of the frames came from Ikea - we chose black to coordinate with the rest of the artwork in our house - it helps unify rooms and gives a gallery style feel. We splurged on the bedding (Land of Nod), the bird mobile (Helen Ige), and the alligator pillow and sun poof (both Zid Zid). The dresser was a bargain a girlfriend found at a local antique mall and the owl lamp was a steal at Urban Outfitters (shade from Ikea).

What are your favorite elements or items in the room?

My single favorite piece in the room is the "humane taxidermy" style stuffed deer head found on Etsy.

Oscar's room is filled with art – have you been collecting these prints for a while or were they bought specifically for his room? (We see several from one of our favorites, John W. Golden)

Once we found out we were having a boy and we picked the name Oscar the rest fell into place. We wanted the the room to be as special for our baby boy as it was for our daughter who had a vintage circus theme so all accessories and bedding are new.

Do you have any advice for parents starting to put their baby's room together or looking to make changes?

Nursery's are special but short-lived. Multi-purpose items like using a dresser as a changing table can grow with the child and be used for years to come.
