Nursery Tour: Tilda's Charming Room

2008-04-15-tilda1.jpg

Location: Auckland, NZ
Child's name: Tilda, 1 year

Proud parents Hayley and John dropped us a line with some lovely pictures of daughter Tilda's nursery. The room, like Tilda (aka Tilly) is a real charmer.

Tilly's room is a light filled front room in our small bungalow. It has a few key things that are special to her such as the cake print above her cot, done by a friend, printmaker, Imogen Tunnicliffe.

I like to mix old with new and keep it fresh with colour.. in this case yellow. Loving yellow at the moment!! Tilly's cot spread is from signature prints in Sydney and was originally her wrap when first born.

I have learnt to start off very minimally as the room bulges as they get older! We have a bit of a small chair collection and these have been bought from school fairs etc, the Black Sheep cushion on one of them is Carrie Chou (sp?), a Hong Kong artist who i really like.

Her perspex 'Moobile' was done by a NZ designerand bought from Eon Design. The tiny hand print was done when she was only a few weeks old. I trained in ceramics and went to art school with Amanda Shanley, who made the excellent 'Tilly' bowl. She has a studio/store in Port Chalmers, Dunedin and makes great stuff.

My favorite part of her room is walking in in the mornings and seeing the light filtering through the blinds onto her cot, with the cake above her.. she looks edible! All the areas change quite frequently...mix it up a bit.

And Ohdeedoh readers, as a bonus here is a pic of big brother Remy's room:

I like the crib a lot, don't suppose it's available in the US?

My god Tilda is indeed a cake. Precious. Love the serenity of the room.

For the comment about the simple, white crib; giggle.com has a similar one called the Reese crib: http://www.giggle.com/p/22588/c/558/cl/570/Reese-Crib.aspx and Restoration Hardware has a photo posted of their coming line of baby furniture at http://www.rhbabyandchild.com/mkt/index.jsp

Love the old school desk in Remy's room, lots of nice worn in dark wood to warm up the room. Is that also a Dick Frizzell print?

i can see where adults would appreciate that particular style of art (i think it's awesome), but it seems like a room that was more designed with the parents in mind instead of the baby. some of the faces could appear especially creepy to a child, and everything in the room has a "look don't touch" kind of feel.
