Nursery Tour: Wolfie's Colorful Cabana

2007-06-05-wolfie.jpg

Location: West Hollywood, CA
Child's Name, Age: Wolfie, Born May 27th
Room Size:: 35 sf

One stay at the Jonathan Adler-designed Parker Palm Springs was all it took. Judi and Rob refer to the room they've created for their new son as the "Resort Collection".

New parents Judi and Rob decided against converting their small second bedroom into the baby's room because Rob works at home and needs the office space. Instead, they started to think of the hallway/closet conversion as a cabana. We love the results! The color combination of the fresh aqua with the white and orange curtains really caught our eye.

Judi's advice: "Sew! You can have exactly what you want exactly the way you want it at 1/2 of the retail price. Be creative about where you find your fabric. We used comforter covers for the cabana curtains and a pillow cover for the wiener dog."

We know our readers always like to know where the furniture came from. Judi and Rob are big fans of the small scale pieces with clean lines at Ikea. This includes their crib, dresser, and storage unit. Other details? The rug is from West Elm. The child-sized Bertoia chair is vintage (eBay) and Judi made the patent leather chair pad. The Calder print is from the Braniff campaign and also vintage/eBay. The porthole is a modified prop from a short film Rob produced.

The local hardware store also played a crucial role in the demolition and construction of their cabana room.

When we asked Judi what her favorite element of the room is, she had a great answer: "Our son Wolfie is my favorite element of the room =) but the cabana curtains are my favorite design element."

Congratulations Judi and Rob and welcome to your new home Wolfie!

Very clever! And I am a fan of the ikea-duvet-turned curtains, because I have the same duvet so naturally I LOVE the print. Great job!

Inspired and inspiring! I *really* need to learn to sew.

I took a class in 7th grade and it was my only C in my entire academic career!

This is great--we are expecting #2 and trying to figure out where to wedge him or her. Is this hallway one that gets walked through often? Has that been a problem for naps/nights?

Re: Noise

At the moment, our infant is still using our bed/co-sleeper but so we haven't had the issue of naps, etc. However, I don't think it will be an issue. We live in a very noisy area and the closet is actually the most quiet area of the apartment. It connects the front entry to the bedroom and office but both can be reached via another door to the office. We do walk through it but we don't need to/
