A reader tipped us off to this fount of inspired goods. Founder Robert Mahar has an impeccable eye for vintage-style goodies "created in the homes and studios of incredibly creative artists, designers and craftspeople."

Our favorite is the unique selection of crotcheted and felt play food. The selection is like a well-stocked cafeteria: there are waffles and fruit, pizza, sandwiches, bento boxes, salmon dinner, picnic foods and cupcakes.

The waffle set pictured is $38, crocheted by Needle Noodle.

Pair your play food with the adorable set of soft cutlery.

Little Red Pear studios hand makes the utensils using retro inspired fabrics. The set is $26.

MyMimi ABC Animal Magnets are another favorite of ours, each letter has a picture of a corresponding animal. We're not sure we can identify all of the pictured animals.

2007-02-27-magnets.jpg What is 'X' - an x-ray of a fish? What is 'Z'? The set is $35.

Each of the products offered looks to be carefully crafted, the type of thing you'll want to save. The selection at Mahar Drygoods is constantly changing so it pays to visit often.

Thanks, Erin!

Those magnets make me wish I hadn't insisted on a stainless steel fridge!

I love Mahar Drygoods, especially since the products' pages give artist information, but I have noticed that in some cases you can get the same products directly from the artists -- without the 50%-plus markup.

Janie,

Thanks to you (and Erin!)for the great post. We actually had to ask the artist to identify a few of the ABC magnets as well! N is a numbat (Australian animal), X is an x-ray fish and Z is a zebra. New items are added every week, so I hope you'll visit us again soon!

All best,

Robert Mahar
