Mimmo Modern Design

06-20-07PrMi.jpgWe're always keeping our eyes open for spiffy children's stores where one can potentially do a lot of one-stop shopping. Mimmo Designs certainly fills that need -- and if a store can do all that and cater to our aesthetic and environmentally-conscious needs as well, it’s even better!

Based in Maui, Hawaii and online since 2004, Mimmo is a clothing, art, furniture and toy store all wrapped into one with an eco-conscious slant. The Mimmo Web site states, "We believe in a modern, functional aesthetic that is environmentally responsible. We hope to help inspire and divulge this eco-friendly attitude" and after perusing the site, it's easy to feel inspired!

Claudia von Unter Ecker of Mimmo tells us, "We especially like the idea, and recommend to our customers, when buying for the nursery, to choose items which can 'grow' with their kids. Adaptability is key at this point when children grow so quickly and their needs and desires are ever changing. Thoughtfully designed pieces can later be at home in a play room (or any other room of the house)." We totally agree, Claudia!

Some of the items we fell in love with were:

  • The solid birch Roll-Top Bench which is great for storage, $299
  • The Franz Wheelbarrow which has a lever for dumping, $230
  • The Doodle Drawer Desk made from pine wood veneer, $149

  • The Pigeon T-Shirt, $32
  • The Knitter's Zebra and Leopard, $26
  • And the Feathers mobile, $45

Another nice thing about Mimmo's Web site is that they offer wish list and registry options, so you can let everyone know what you'd really love to get. And, their assortment of pillows, mobiles and lamps is just too cute to pass up (most are under $50.)

Be sure to say "Aloha!" to Mimmo!

Please Please don't lead people down the same path many others have gone down with Mimmo. I tried to place an order with them before my baby came and it was an absolute nightmare. Waited forever for a response after several calls and e-mails -- never got products, and had to deal directly with my credit card for a credit due to their complete lack of customer service. Beware --

I absolutely echo these sentiments. PLEASE PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS WEBSITE. I placed a straightforward order, but after 2 weeks, had received nothing, only an email confirming my order. For the the next month I tried to get in touch with someone at Mimmo via phone, email, or fax, with no response whatsoever. It has been 3 months and no one has responded to me and I have to keep checking my credit card to make sure they have not charged it. Please don't make the same mistake!

BUYER BEWARE! I made a purchase 2 months ago and any attempt to contact MIMMO Modern Design for information regarding shipping and receipt of merchandise was futile. I am currently working with my credit card company for retrival of what constitutes a felony theft. I urge anyone who has had similar dealings with them to contact the Attorney General's office of Hawaii via their website: http://hawaii.gov/ag/main/contact_dept/
and file a formal complaint with the Internet Fraud division.

I have shopped at Mimmo a few times, never had any problems. Costumer service was actually above the industry norm, if anything.
I must say I love their selection and their eco-friendly attitude.

Same here, I ordered from them a lot in the past, never had problems.
I had some trouble reaching them by phone though. I guess it is because of the time difference, they are located in Hawaii, I am in NY... Nonetheless, I would recommend them.

I completely agree with the above comments. I purchased something online a full month ago and received only an email confirmation that the order was "in process." There has been no update to the status of my order in the last month. Their customer service line is terrible - it states that their customer service reps are "all busy" so you have to leave a message. I have yet to receive a return phone call after 4-5 messages, and have emailed them 3 times with no response. DO NOT ORDER FROM MIMMO!!
