Anyone have any suggestions on what to get an 8 year old boy? I have never met him, only his very funky artistic parents and I'm invited to his birthday party this weekend.

Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Help- I need to make a decision soon. Do I *NEED* carpeting/a full area rug for the hardwood floors in my nursery? Do any of you make do with a smaller rug for the middle of the room only? I'm wanting to move the furniture into the room soon and don't want to change my mind about getting carpet in there. Thanks!

NATHALIE: I have an 8 year old nephew...tough to shop for. We've had luck with books: Anything by Andrew Clemens is a good start. He's also enjoyed sketch books and unique art supplies, and we've also given him a journal type book that he can use for writing or sketching. He's been happy with all of these.

I'm also wondering about the Skip Hop bag giveaway!

Jennkilbo - We only have an area rug for our nursery. We love our hardwood floors and didn't want to cover them up with a large rug or wall-to-wall carpeting. Our son loves to play on the floor and the rug provides plenty of room for him to do so.

nathalie:

Two years ago we bought a pair of Heely's for our 8 year old nephew and he loved it. Other than that, if he has a Wii, maybe a game for it or even Leggo sets. Good luck!

Third the Skip Hop bag giveaway: who's the winner?

for 8 yr old boy:
I second the lego. What about a little cactus plant? Cute, he can care for it, but it doesn't require more care than an 8yr old could give! Books are awesome - Roald Dahl's are very good, and so are Graeme Base's and Jeannie Baker's.

Heelys are the devils footwear! 8 year olds do not have the sense to not run people over on the street or in the mall.

Rock climbing gift certificate?
