(Welcome to Lia, one of the finalists for an editor position at AT:The Nursery. Comment away.)
Want a baby book that looks like it belongs on the New York Times bestseller list? Starting at less than most blank baby books cost you can get a pitch-perfect custom made book at blurb.com. Blurb is an online publishing company we found at last year's Maker Faire, where they blew us away with the quality of their finished books. We're happy to see that Blurb is still doing well, and offering customers a variety of layouts and themes to create their own one of a kind book.
Blurb's software makes it easy for you to create a real book (complete with copyright page and professional looking layout options) with your own text and photos, and even lets you pull photos directly from your flickr account.
Their Baby Book offers the typical baby book layout, but we're more excited about the creative possibilities their Photo Book poses. The three-by-three grid layout makes it feel like your editing your very own Martha-esque magazine (face it, she changed the way we look at magazines).
The best part is, unlike many small publishing companies, there is no minimum order, so if you need one book for you and one for grandma you'll get just that. First trip to Disneyland, or catalog raisonne of your toddler's artwork? Sound like books just waiting to be published.

Blurb is good for books, but mypublisher dot com offers better quality books, so I have heard from many of my designer friends. PLUS they are offereing a current discount of 50% off orders of $100 or more until June 2007. Just thought you'd like to know. They have a great selection of layouts to choose from.

I second the mypublisher . com recommendation. We're on our fourth year of making a year end book with them and the quality is fantastic. Great layout options, colors, etc.

Thanks for the recommendations, leezy and mangosteen. Although I can't comment on mypublisher's finished product (I have only seen Blurb's in person), their layouts look great!

What a great gift idea for grandparents! I've made a few of these types of books through Shutterfly, but hadn't thought to do a first year baby book. What I am still searching for is a baby book that you record all the firsts in that spans 5 years, any suggestions?
