Thankfully, Real Simple, stepped in to bring order, create storage and tame the chaos. The playroom belongs to Palmer, daughter of Philadelphia parents Sharon and Noel. Palmer loves to draw and paint so one of the goals was to give her the space to do this, but to make sure that art supplies didn't take over the whole room.

One of Real Simple's top strategies for this transformation was to weed out the junk - dried out markers, a past-its-prime play kitchen and old stuffed animals. New furniture, including the table and chairs from Ikea, a flat file unit and a storage hutch from Pottery Barn Kids helps define the space and adds storage. It's hard to see from the small photo, but they also created a reading nook in the corner for when Palmer wants some quiet time.
