Blogging Real Simple: A Messy Playroom Gets Organized

2008-03-20-real.jpg

For those of us who live in small homes and apartments, the idea of having a dedicated playroom is an out-of-reach fantasy. So it kind of drove us nuts to see this huge playroom being squandered in the before photo.

Thankfully, Real Simple, stepped in to bring order, create storage and tame the chaos. The playroom belongs to Palmer, daughter of Philadelphia parents Sharon and Noel. Palmer loves to draw and paint so one of the goals was to give her the space to do this, but to make sure that art supplies didn't take over the whole room.

One of Real Simple's top strategies for this transformation was to weed out the junk - dried out markers, a past-its-prime play kitchen and old stuffed animals. New furniture, including the table and chairs from Ikea, a flat file unit and a storage hutch from Pottery Barn Kids helps define the space and adds storage. It's hard to see from the small photo, but they also created a reading nook in the corner for when Palmer wants some quiet time.

You can read more about the room at Real Simple's website and in the April issue of Real Simple now on newstands

great inspiration! my son's art is taking over our home, so these are good ideas.

"my daughter's too young -- and my husband's too male -- " that was the best line of the article ;)
