When you have a baby, you find yourself taking a lot of pictures. Putting them into proper albums is another story. We're making an album that captures our favorite things baby did throughout her first year...things we might otherwise forget. How do you organize your photos? Take the survey below...

I answered #3 -- what albums? but my plan is to go back and create albums for each year -- starting with 2004 when my son was born, and we bought our digital camera.

My baby isn't here yet, so I didn't answer (although I'm guessing my answer will eventually be #3 - all my other photos are still on the computer). I was wondering if people who have made albums have done it the old-fashioned way or are using software or photo-sharing site books, and if anyone has any tips to share. Thanks!

gaaah ha ha ha ha! albums! yeah, that's funny. actually, i did do a shutterfly photo book for the boys' first six months, but here they are at 14 months, and i haven't even really thought about doing one for the second six months.
i just use flickr, and keep the photos in folders by month.

We're expecting our first, also, but I plan to organzie albums/scrapbooks by year using the online How Fast They Grow website. I'm all about efficiency and know I won't make the time to print out photos and make cute album pages if left on my own. Here's the website: http://www.howfasttheygrow.com/index.cfm?

I triple back up my photos but have not printed anything since my 16-month-old was 3 months. Oh, and I'm a photographer!!

I'm going to do photobooks from Blurb I think. I don't have prints of any pictures since 2003... I think I'm going to do albums by year of all of our "other" pictures and a separate on for baby's first year. I can't decide where I'll put my pregnancy pics... probably in with her first year.

My photos are on my computer, an external hardrive and I made them into cds. Do you think that is overdoing it??!! I have created an album for his birthday and a gift for his dad but it's not of all the photos though. Just of the ones that are really significant or funny.

smileygirl - not overdoing it if youd rather not misplace and then unknowingly delete the album of your first childs birth. happened to me. yay...
all my pictures from 2008 on are kept on an external hardrive. everything before then are all on dvds/cds. all except my kids birth, that is. bummer.

I recently had to transfer all 26,000 of my photos (going back to 2002) to another drive. As such, they got out of order and now they're not labeled. It's driving me crazy trying to find things! So I would say that definitely labeling each folder as "events" is a must (and a project I will be doing soon)!

I have a baby book for my oldest and I plan to do scrapbooks for my new one and for important events in both of their lives, but I don't understand why I would want to print out all those pictures and put them in albums? I don't have space for that many albums and in fact have trouble finding space for my pre-digital photo albums (they currently reside on a shelf in my closet).
I use smugmug's online albums and it is a great way to share photos with friends and family and a low-maintenance way to keep my photos. Thank goodness for digital!

I do a baby book for each child from birth to age three. After that i plan on doing highlights in the form of a blurb book to cut back on the time needed to organize, print and put together an album. It takes TIME! But I do love REAL pictures in an album. I'm old school like that :)

can I choose all of the above?
I use Iphoto, where I create albums that are listed in order by date and specific to each event they may be about... even if the "event" is a bunch of photos of baby eating watermellon... It kinda sets itself up that way.
as someone who once lost all her photos when her hard drive crashed, I do also have a backup system. I don't have any printed albums... maybe someday.
Sounds like a job for grandma....

We have a pro account on flickr that we use as an external backup to our hard drive. Not that we have all the oldest ones uploaded yet. But we have an eye-fi card that automagically uploads everything we take to our computer and from there to flickr.
Also for Christmas we made the grandparents (and one for us) a 'baby's first year' album using blurb. It took awhile to choose, crop, caption, etc ... but the finished product is so worth it. Especially since if we'd had to print out photos one by one to put in an album it never ever would've happened.
