While we don't recommend your kids do the can-can in these, simple can stilts are bound to get your kids outdoors for an elevated walk this weekend. Maybe put on some costumes and parade by the neighbor's house?

You probably had a pair of these as a kid (we have a dim memory of wearing the plastic ones around the living room watching Romper Room) and you probably have all the materials you need around the house to make them: cans, strong string, a hammer and a nail.
Zakka Life (always a great source of fun ideas and crafts) walks you through the simple instructions with a few tips here. We were also thinking you could gussy these up with some fabric cut-to-size adhered with some spray adhesive or glue.
There's a part in "Ramona and her Father" by Beverly Cleary about making these kind of stilts. It's a great summer read to go along with this project!

We had these, we made them for the kids we babysat, the whole deal. I loved them.
