Ikea Latt Transformation

At $25 for the table and two chairs, Ikea's "Latt" set is surely a good deal but perhaps a bit bland. If you want to avoid turning your home into an Ikea showroom, break open the paint and stains to create something eye-grabbing and distinctive.

We spotted this catchy red "Latt" makeover on Flickr whilst looking for inspiration to redo our own similarly sized Ikea "Kritter" set. Mom, Coralie, used an Ikea stain that her son picked out and left the tops their original white. The result is really fresh and modern.

That's my table up there. Thanks for showing it!

Another good idea is that you can paint (using the right paints, considering the surface), or draw on the flat surface of the table and chairs. This can make a nice project for the kid/s who'll be using the set.

Wow, it always amazes me what a little paint (or stain in this case) will do to something!

I painted ours orange and I love it!

I juuuuust got home with my LATT (and a load of other IKEA stuff) and I was all happy to set up my bb boy's playroom and WAH-WAH. OhDee says I'm lame if I don't paint it all cool and OH LAWD it's gonna look like an IKEA showroom up in here!

LOL, luckily I think the IKEA showrooms are (mostly) cool. And much like the whole KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON debate, we AT folks have seen it all before, but the average joe says, WOW that's cool! My son, I suspect will just stare blankly and beat the entire room with a stick.

But now I am inspired to add a few more unusual touches. DANG YOU, AT! :)

Very cool, but does anyone else think the Latt set is tiny? I hesitate to purchase it because I'm not sure how long my 19-month-old will even get to use it.

@2manydaves -
my (very tall) 3 yr old and 19 month old love to use it. Maybe it's the floor where the table is, but I think my 19 month old is just a little young to easily manipulate the chairs in and out. You'd definitely get your $25 out of it.

I painted ours green - the same as our kitchen wall color (where the table & chairs live). Blends in - except for the huge mess on top!

Here's what we did to doctor up our Ikea Svala set.
A coat of paint and a custom decal purchased on Etsy.

But don't worry, hellowest, I think they look pretty cute plain, too.

2manydaves - I think the Latt is about the size of the Kritter I have which is currently too big for my 17 month old to use. I would say these sets are probably good up to age 3.

Carrie

also spiced mine up, only after it had been covered in crayon. painted it all white and added some contact paper in white and green to the top. much sweeter and cleaner!
