Money can't buy happiness and it can't buy fun either. Meg, author of the Sew Liberated blog, is a Montessori teacher who has spent the past three years living and teaching in rural Mexico and she's seen this firsthand. She writes, the true fun, the true creative endeavor, is to allow children to make something out of what we perceive as nothing. A piece of newspaper. A rope. Sticks. Hand-me-down marbles. Natural paints. Rocks.
The families she's worked with may not have access to fancy store-bought toys and games, but that doesn't mean they don't have fun. In this spirit, Meg has issued the Fun for Nothin' Challenge. She's created a Flickr group for parents trying to move away from the consumer culture and for those who might be on a tight budget to upload photos illustrating ideas for having Fun for Nothin'. So far almost two hundred ideas have been submitted - why not submit yours?
