One of the essential items in a home is a well-stocked first aid kit. You'll be glad to have all of your supplies in one location in the event of a cut, bruise, splinter or tick. To stay organized, we picked up this First Aid Kit from the Container Store.
It has convenient compartments for all sizes of bottles, boxes and first aid tools. This First Aid Kit does not come with supplies so you'll need to stock it.
We like this clean plastic tote but if you want something more homemade looking, check out these first aid kits over at Chez Larsson; they're made from vintage gingerbread tins! Go here for a list of first aid kit supplies. Just remember to use Hello Kitty Bandaids.
I have a bad ass first aid kit, but I am a doc so I can order all sorts of good stuff, including surgical staples, glue, local anesthetics, epinephrine, etc. My advice is to make friends with a doctor so you can create a great first aid kit. I used to carry one in my car, which I should probably start doing again. Something that you never think of is material to create a splint in the case of broken bones. A rolled up magazine is perfect for this. Also, trashed bed sheets, when torn into strips, make great ties for splints. If anyone is interested in instructions on how to make a butterfly bandage out of an old sheet, email me at ktallsn@yahoo.com

This is a great idea, even if you don't have children. I'm amazed at how many times I've tried to find something and couldn't. It would be nice to have a kit that contains a little bit of everything.
