New "Souk Chic" from FLOR

2007-10-29-flor souk chic.jpg

The back of the catalog usually showcases something new, and we thought it was a great spot for the new "Souk Chic" design from FLOR. While it's not in their kids section, we think the vibrant patchwork of colors would make a perfect area rug in the nursery.

Modern design meets a thousand year old process of knotting together worn Turkish and Persian rugs to create this colorful rug. The pattern is printed on FLOR's Solid Ground tile. It comes in blue, grey, or this pretty multi-color and is available here.

I'm glad you wrote about Flor. I was going to email you all and ask you what you thought of it. I've heard that it looks dirty pretty quickly (with the low pile squares). Has anyone had a good experience with this in their kid's rooms?

I want to do something as eco-friendly as I can and haven't found that many great options.

Missy,
We have low-pile flor in our bedroom (thick 'n thin) and a thicker pile in the nursery (walking on clouds).

The low pile is very hard to vacuum...but we have an old Hoover. Maybe a new-fangled Dyson is better. It annoys me to be constantly picking lint and stuff up off the floor/flor.

The thicker pile vacuums better, but does show dirt quite easily. It's still not as thick as a regular carpet. Maybe a pattern with tonal variations would disquise the dirt...we chose pure marshmallow (dumb, I know).

We have cork flooring throughout the rest of the house, and I am seriously debating taking up the flor and installing cork in the bedrooms. It never feels cold underfoot and things just bounce when you drop them...and we have glued right on the concrete slab! It's really very baby-friendly and I would reccomend it if you're wanting to go eco-friendly.

I've had low pile Flor in my family room & had to take it up b/c it showed dirt waaaay too easily. That said, I read a comment here once where someone said they'd not had any trouble with it. It makes me wonder if some styles are better than others. I had the Wide Wale and wouldn't choose it again. I was also less than impressed with Flor customer service. I emailed three times, to specific individuals, and never received a response. I even sent picture files so they'd know I wasn't talking about a small amount of dirt/wear. No response whatsoever.

We have FLOR low pile in our nursery and it still looks great after nine months of use. The downside as I see it is that it's not very soft or thick but it sure looks great in there! :)

I posted this once before, but ours (housepet) looks great. Its not soft, but that is clear from the description. It show nothing. We have a Dyson vacuum, but even between vacuums it looks great, and that is with 2 kids, 2 dogs, and a cat (and a husband!!). I think with flor, you just have to be really careful about what you choose for a given area. I would only choose those low pile velvet or felted finish styles in true barefoot only/ adult rooms.

Sorry, but what are the low pile ones? I just ordered striped ones from FLOR (waiting for delivery) but can't tell if they're low pile or not. that phrase doesn't appear on the site either.
Thanks
