Socket-Lockits

072009socketlockitpic.jpgOur first thought when we saw these- cute, but do we really need "cute" electrical outlet covers? And...wouldn't the colorful designs make the baby even more likely to reach for them? But the inventor, a parent, actually anticipated and had these same thoughts...

072009socketlockit.jpg"My immediate question was one of design – of how to secure these plugs into a wall so that parents could remove them but their children could not. But I had an aesthetic question as well - why can’t safety features like this also be decorative? It was then that I realized if I put self-locking barbs to catch the back of the outlet, we would then be able to decorate them safely. Any chance to beautify a home is one worth considering," writes the inventor on their website.

So, safe and cute outlet covers...would you bother? We'd actually rather our outlets blend in with the walls, but these might be cute in a kids' room or playroom.

They are cute but at 2 for $6, pricey. I bought a package of 30 for just $5 when we were childproofing. I appreciate the idea but not everything in the house has to be adorable. Sometimes things are just functional.
