Safety-Proofing Wires

032609messycords.jpg
We wish we had thought of this years ago long before baby. With a husband with a mini music recording studio in a corner of the living room, we've always detested the mess of wires. Now that baby's almost ready to crawl, we've finally found some great solutions, and they're affordable. A safe house, and a neater house- perfect. Watch all those wires above disappear below the jump...

Voila! We're loving this Just Right Cord Control Kit. It has a slit down the length so you can easily tuck in different wires AND is comes with eight sets of color coded labels so you can match cords with to jacks. Can you tell we're excited about this?

Another good find...the Outlet Cover and Cord Shortener hides four feet of loose wire.

This wire guard will blend in with your molding.

Finally, the Power Strip Safety Cover looks a whole lot better than all of those bare plugs.

You can find the above products here, and let us know if you have any other great finds.

Yup, I bought sufficient cord and cable guards at a local Best Buy -- very useful. The other thing we did in the old house was put the wiring from the dishes under the house (in the crawlspace) and drilled a small access hole in the floor right behind the AV rack to avoid "traveling cords" on the living room floor.

If we ever had to rewire a system again, we'd go with the Flat Wire system, which you can paint over. (http://www.decorp.com/)

Alternatively, you can use empty paper towel rolls to hold bundles of cables together. Nope, it doesn't look great, but it works in a pinch, and you can cut the roll to fit.

You can buy something very similar to the Just Right Cord Control Kit at Ikea.
