Scripted Baby Rocker

2009-08-linux.jpg

For the first few months of his life our son just wanted to be bounced in his bouncy chair. It was a great workout for our calves and we found ourselves phantom bouncing him whenever we sat down for weeks after he'd outgrown the need. So we had to laugh when we saw that another parent wrote a Linux script to open and close a computer cd tray attached by string to their baby's rocking car seat. Check out the video below the jump.

We suspect this was just a bit of fun as it probably isn't the most efficient way to accomplish this task and it seems it would wear out and break the cd tray in pretty short order. But we can appreciate the ingenuity and the sentiment.

We saw this on boingboing - their readers have already covered most of the ground in the snarky comments department, but feel free to leave yours below anyway.

If I had been smart enough to think of this when my son was a baby, I would rule the world by now.
