A baby hammock is one piece of baby gear we never owned. We admit we still look at them with slight pangs of regret. If we were ever going to purchase one, this baby hammock by Kanoe probably would have been our choice.

We've heard that the benefits of a baby hammock is that it provides gentle movement in response to your baby's movements which helps calm babies and help them to sleep. The Kanoe is made of 100% certified organic cotton in a canoe shape. It has a weight-calibrated spring and hanging assembly that allows the hammock to bounce and sway. To assemble, just screw an eye lag into a ceiling joist or beam. Installing additional eye lags throughout the house allows you to move the Kanoe from room to room.
For older children over 35 pounds, remove the spring and hang the Kanoe just above the ground as a fun place to sit and play. The Kanoe is available here.
That is a beautiful hammock. I had an Amby and I always tell everyone that a hammock is really a last resort kind of purchase. We had the hardest time getting our little guy to sleep in his crib or the co-sleeper. He could not fall asleep flat on his back. After 8 weeks of that, we broke down and bought a hammock and it worked wonders.
But if your kiddo isn't as hard to please, this isn't a must-have purchase.

Thank you, jensational. This hammock is lovely, and I'm sure any baby would enjoy it. But what bothers me is that the Kanoe Baby people make it sound like your child's development will be negatively affected if you DON'T get one. This is a very common ploy among vendors who want to sell things to new parents.

none of my kids slept flat on their backs. never worried about it & they're just fine!

This is cute - I like that it becomes a seat for bigger kids. In the right nursery it would be very cute.

I love this so much! It's just what I want when I have a baby someday. You can even rent these kanoes for $40 a month to see if your child likes it! Wow!

We picked up an Arm's Reach Beautiful Dreamer Cocoon hammock, instead of the usual bassinet co-sleeper. It's an awesome alternative.

I'd love to hear reviews of this. We are considering getting one instead of a crib...
