Cork Chair

2007-02-20-corkchair.jpg

Modern and green. Designed by Daniel Michalik, the Cub Children's Chair is made entirely of cast cork - reclaimed waste material from the bottle-stopper industry.

We like the texture and pattern the cork gives; natural and neutral. And we assume the cork lends a certain softness to the chair, making it more comfortable than many of the plastic and wood offerings we've seen.

The Cub Chair was available at Branch for $138, but on a recent check of the site, we see it has been removed! Does anyone know what happened or where else the Cub Chair can be purchased?

Maybe it's a safety issue? I can just see my 1 year old toddling up to that and taking a huge bite out of it.

Oh, absolutely.

The new main branch of the Seattle Public Library had these very cute chairs and couches made out of that super-dense foam material...within 6 months they were chock full of bite marks.

Cute, but not so sensible.

Following up to add--said bitten-up chairs were in the kids' section!

I can't recall the seating in the adult sections of the library...in any even I hope the grown-ups are more restrained!
