Creating a Bench Seat

2009-11-05-bookcase2.JPG

We've got another IKEA hack for you today. This one is a sweet little bench seat complete with storage underneath.

We found this splendid creation over at Mondo Cherry. It's made from two IKEA bedside tables, put together and topped with a tailored cushion and some pillows to lean against. This weekend, take a look around your house to see what piece(s) of furniture could be repurposed into something you need for a nursery or playroom before buying something new.

I have the same concern. Super cute idea, but any proof that it's going to last??

I'm sure it won't be a heirloom, but it's for a toddler's room. It needn't last long (not unlike their clothes). It's a clever idea.

I used a bunch of Malm (Ikea) bedside tables next to each other just like this and made a cushion for the top as a window seat. It's great, and with tons of drawer storage (so I don't need a dresser). Recently we put an old yoga mat under the cushion and it slides around a bit less. It's one of our favorite spots to read.

We are in the process of hacking the Expedit bookshelf (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70116276) into a window bench. We put it on its side -- we love that it has enough storage space for five cubes -- and are looking for pillows for it.
