If you're growing weary of the ubiquitous Eames shell rocker in nurseries (not that we are), perhaps these newly released kids' versions of iconic design pieces will tickle your jaded sensibilities. In addition to containing well-known pieces like Eero Saarinen's Womb Chair and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Chair, this official collection by Knoll Kids also contains some less obvious choices, such as the Suzanne Lounge Collection by Japanese designer Kazuhide Takahama and the Stones stools by Maya Lin.
First Look: Knoll Kids
Not that kids will care about the pedigrees of any of these designs. Instead, we suspect they'll be attracted by the fresh, fun quality of these pieces. From a purely aesthetic perspective, there's something about seeing these chairs rendered in child size and used by children that really puts you in touch with how playful these designs are... which was the original intent of many of their creators.
And now that we think about it, it makes perfect sense that children would instinctively be drawn to the idea of curling up in a Womb Chair. Of course.

Kids grow so quickly -- to my eye, and my experience, that little girl in the womb chair is already too big for it.
I don't want to know how expensive it is (almost $4000 for a kid scale barcelona chair!!) -- it strikes me as the very definition of conspicuous consumption. At least with the adult version of the womb chair, the child will have it for life.

$2380 for a child womb chair? I'm sure there is a luxury market for this and princess beds that cost $20,000, but honestly, as a reader, I'd rather see good affordable designs.
