Marimekko + Bemz = Awesome Ikea Slipcovers

2009-05-bemz.jpg

If we were any better at math we would have figured out that cats + baby = slipcover before spending so much on our now trashed sofa. Between the scratched arms and sticky upholstery we would happily board a time machine to instead buy a comfortable, no-frills Ikea couch knowing we could spruce it up (or change up the decor) with a Bemz slipcover made perfectly to fit many of Ikea's couches and chairs. To add insult to our already injured couch, we just read that iconic Finnish textile makers Marimekko are now teaming up with Bemz in a new line of slipcovers for Ikea products.

When we've looked at slipcovers in the past the fabric choices were usually bland chambrays in plain blue, cream and maybe green, but Marimekko is nothing if not bright, fresh and bold. Bemz will be offering eleven Marimekko prints as slipcovers for chairs and sofas. Even if the Marimekko collection isn't for you, Bemz has dozens of other colors and prints to choose from.

Who would you like to see Bemz team up with next?

Love it! I just wish I knew what my couch was called. BTW, anyone know where that round (oval?) coffee table is from in the first picture? Is that an IKEA table?

What is that tulip tree artwork? Is it stenciled? A print? Info please! Actually, I'd like lots more of this sort of thing!

I am pretty sure the pink flower picture is actually a piece of Marimekko fabric on a fabric stretcher. I can't think of the name of the fabric though.

Pencils-yes its an IKEA coffee table. We have the same one but square and love it! It has a great surface and rounded corners and is the perfect size for our large sectional. Here is a link to the round one.

Pink Flower picture is fabric art. You can find it here:

I've actually ordered from that site before a few years ago and they're great.

[Christie from Bemz] - here to answer a few questions. First to you Pencils: yes that is an Ikea table in the top shot. It's an IMFORS coffee table. Secondly, the artwork BlueLM and nordynono ask about is a Marimekko fabric stretched over a frame. It's called KEISARINNA and is available in six different colorways. (Fyi, it is only suitable for lighter wearing fabric demands such as curtains.)
Tartanfrog and cbenn - thank you so much for putting us onto Amy Butler. Great suggestion. I passed it onto our design department and they looked into it. Unfortunately, it seems that she doesn't at present make any upholstery fabrics, i.e., fabrics strong enough to withstand the wear and our sofas our subjected to! But we would love to hear more suggestions from you all. Please feel free to let us know. You can always email me directly on blog@bemz.com.
Finally, erinpearce: yes we are aware that the shipping costs are higher for the US and we are trying to find an optimal solution.
Thanks all! Get in touch anytime!
