How do you store children's books? We were struck recently by how difficult it can be for pre-readers to find their favorite books when they are shelved spines-out on bookshelves, and thought that perhaps the Buy Magazine Holder by Anne Krook might solve the problem. Stocked with books instead of magazines, this 34" oak and plexiglass shelf would let children find their favorites via the cover art.
Since the shelf only extends out about 3 inches, these wouldn't take up a lot of space in a room, and mounted at child height, make for practical storage. Of course, wiping fingerprints off of the plexiglass might be a pain in the neck, and the $171 price point isn't for everyone, but we do love the idea of displaying the covers of picture books like wall art.

We have been trying to come up with a system for displaying books face front in out children's rooms for a while no -- I like the idea of displaying the cover art as artwork, as wellit is easier to choose a book that way. MSL had a version of such shelving in an early issue of the MSL baby magazine several years ago, but I didn't find it safe - too inviting for climbing.
This looks like a good option. What we have been batting around is using some brushed aluminum edging pieces from the hardware store here (Switzerland) along with wire curtain "rods" stretched across to keep the books in. Still mulling.

Great idea and it doesn't look too hard to recreate your own version, getting the size to fit your exact needs (and probably easier on the wallet!)
