If you followed along during Storage Month here at Ohdeedoh, you'll know that we're always interested in new storage ideas and products. Target recently unveiled their latest storage system, Itso, a collaboration with design firm, Ideo.

Itso is a modular storage system intended for any room in the house. Individual units (in either plastic or wood laminate) in different sizes work together to fit and fill your space. The units can be filled with Itso storage bins available in fabric, plastic or heavy paper board. It's also worth noting that the large storage bins are just the right size for the Ikea Expedit shelving and cheaper than other options we've found.
If you're planning storage for a space you might enjoy the online Itso Builder feature which lets you drag, drop and rearrange the modular pieces and accessories into any configuration you can imagine.
We like how flexible the Itso system is, but we're finding it hard to get very excited about. What do you think? A good alternative to similarly inexpensive Ikea storage? Boring and too basic?
See more Itso at Target here.
Considering the nearest IKEA is about 6-hour drive (I'm in St. Louis, IKEA is near Chicago) and the nearest Target is about 10 minutes away, this is better than a lot of other options I have. I'll be checking into it.

I saw these in Target a few weeks ago; I think the laminates are a nice step up from, say, the expedit system from Ikea, and it's nice that you can customize the shelving, cubicles, etc. if you do have an ikea near you though, i think that's the way to go (not to mention scouring your local craigslist for a secondhand ikea item).
the fabric bins are nice, though; i think i'll pick up a couple of the small green ones for our landing strip!

In one sense I am excited as I have been looking for something like this, but we have no Ikea in Colorado. We do have a DWR and a Scandinavian Design store, but their similar options would cut into the college fund. I'll have to check them out, consider the quality and where they are made. If they off gas, I just learned that AFM safecoat has a hard seal made for coating and sealing laminates, which might be a good option to make these more healthy.

These aren't new. Target had a system years ago when they were licensing Lynnette Jennings designs that used the same leg, and shapes. The only thing different from that series is the colors. That older series was in dark toned laminate.

Cute, but i wonder how sturdy it is. And this is a design I have seen before at Target.

i saw these in the store- i was totally reeled in by the lovely photos and product presentation- but up close, it's a big disappointment- the quality is crap!

I find the Expedit system from IKEA much better looking.

I just bought the fabric boxes and they fit inside the Expedit bookshelves from Ikea. They are slightly tight at first, but will work their way in nicely. I really like them so far.

I am really surprised that no one has mentioned the Traby by Ikea. That is the system that I think is the most similar. I have 3 Traby units under my front window.

I love the concept, but I was disappointed when I saw them in real life.

I bought several of these and I really like how they look in my living room.
I have to say, for the price that I paid, I was expecting more quality than it actually is. It's not made out of solid wood. Crappy flaky particle board!
But, it's pretty sturdy and I'm planning to buy more for my office when it's on sale. Since I live like 400 miles away from an Ikea store, this is what I have.
Do Ikea products use particle board too?

When I saw them put together at Target I wasn't very impressed but I had baby toys flowing from every corner of my livingroom so I got some. My husband put them together and did add some screws to better secure them. My friends didn't even realize they were from Target they thought I bought them just the way I had them put together. We have ours under our tv so it doubles as a tv stand and storage. I'm thrilled with it and even though they are cheap everyone says how nice ours look and wants to know where we bought it. I just know my friends spent 800-1000 bucks on their tv stands of similar size and ours with the storage bins and feet was maybe 300. We love ours and I was a skeptic before I saw them in my own house.

I got these cubes for my daughters room. I did a hot pink and zebra theme and recovered the bins with a hot glue gun and an extra pair of bed sheets, we are talking so ghetto fabulous. Those cubes can be costly and dont waste your time purchasing the doors. They did not stay closed. It you want to save space and not spend alot of money this is def your best bet. Oh btw now they have added black and a pink color
