032309-wallofawesome.jpgMore on the thrifting front: Earlier today, we showed you this lovely room decorated almost entirely in thrift store finds. Now check out this amazing collection of books, games and toys (aka "The Wall of Awesome") we spotted over at Thingamababy. AJ collected most of these for just pennies on the dollar, and he's assembled his tips in a great post.

Surprisingly, he advises giving Craigslist a miss, unless you're on the hunt for specific hard-to-find items. A couple more valuable tips:

  • Create a Gmail e-mail account and subscribe to [your local Freecycle] mailing list, then set up a series of Gmail filters to forward certain messages to your real e-mail account. Thus, only pertinent offers reach you.

  • If you join your “Friends of the Library” organization, for a nominal fee you can attend the sales before the general public does, often a day or two beforehand.

For more tips, including a truly exhaustive forensic analysis of how to work the garage sale circuit, check out the full post on Thingamababy.

Love it!!! I, too, spend at least a few times a week perusing our local Goodwills, etc. and have built quite a library for our daughter doing so. I've never paid more than $1.99 for a book and most have been only $.49, including some nearly brand-new board books of Goodnight Moon, Runaway Bunny and Guess How Much I Love You. Plus, it feels great to recycle something that is not only good for the planet but for is vital for the development of our children.
