apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Sex and the City: Lily's Room

lilys-room-SLK-SatC.jpgBy now, you are probably saying, "Enough with the Sex and the City!" or you're saying, "More! More!" Either way, having seen the movie a few weeks ago, we thought one of the most enjoyable parts was Lily's room.

The fine folks at Lil Sugar have a post and interview with the movie's production designer Jeremy Conway who discussed everything from Carrie's apartment makeover to Lily's sweet digs which include a black and white striped dresser, polka dot arm chair, and electric pink wall paper (Charlotte always was a devotee of wall paper, wasn't she?)

I dig the black and white dresser but the rest just looks like pepto bismal exploded.
So Saccharine

Or as they say in Steel Magnolias... "my colors are Blush and Bashful". Translation = pink and pink.

it's so pink it look like the interior of the (Lungs?) in the Mucinex commercial.

Sorry, clickchick - if you have a little girl then you know that many LOVE this pink on pink on pink look! My non-girly girl has wall to wall pink paint and some decor, but the non-girly pops of color, black/white dresser are key points to keeping the room from being that saccharine, as you say. :)

I think the wall paper is the perfect extension of Charlotte having Lily as her daughter - a little bit of Char in a modern yet classic way. (Not a big fan of the wallpaper myself, but it works here I suppose!)

Love the translucent storage boxes, the yellow chair, and the mobiles/light fixtures!

txex! I respect other people's right to drown in pepto bismol... it's just not right for me. I hate pink.

If I ever have a girl she's not wearing or living in pink unless she asks for it herself. I shall not force pink on her. But I will respect and defend to the death her right to it!

Tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Yeah, the pink is entirely too much for me. I like the rest of the details in the room, though.

The only pink I like is pale pink, and in rather petite doses. Most other shades, especially the brighter shades of pink used for children, make my skin crawl..

My favorite colors are aqua, lime/grass green, electric blue, orange, yellow, linen, white... and I like rainbows :) These colors are reflected in our nursery and in the clothes I've purchased for our layette. Even though I'm planning to find out soon what gender our baby is, I'm going to wait to tell everyone else so we don't end up with strongly male or female gifts! I really prefer neutrals in general and I hope to transfer a little of this preference to our offspring. Colors that read as strongly male (navy blue, hunter green) or female (pink, purple) have always felt a little overbearing to me.
