#11- Magnolia Livens Up Mom and Dad's Room

Name: Barbara, Noah, and Magnolia
Child's Name and Age: Magnolia, 5 months
Location: Boston, MA
Size: 135 sqare ft. bedroom

Favorite Source:
The hardware store, Marshalls/TJMaxx, art/crafts stores, IKEA

What inspired you?

When we found out unexpectedly that we were expecting, upsizing was not an option (note the co-sleeper arrangement), and our budget was pretty minimal (college students!). So we just used the things we already had, did a lot of DIY art projects, and added books and other objects that we had enjoyed from our childhood.

We like the fact that the room is a bit generationally ambiguous, yet has touches of whimsy.

Great Tip:

Make every room a living room!

I've been awaiting a post like this, as I am in the exact same situation, with a slightly smaller bedroom. I'm glad to see the co-sleeper is working for youm I wasn't sure if I needed a full crib.

What do you think about a changing table? Or a changing area on top of a regular dresser? What do you do about clothes storage for you and your baby? And do you have some kind of chair/rocker for feeding?

Any tips on what you need and what you don't would be great.

Thanks!

Three of my friends and I all wanted to name our children Magnolia at some time of our pregnancy and either chickened out or had boys. One even said her daughter couldn't pull it off! I'm glad to see there is a baby Magnolia and she sure has a cute room! I also had the co-sleeper, it was great, though I used it more for a crib.

Thanks for showing it IS possible to have a baby in a one bedroom home. My husband and I live in a small one bedroom duplex and since we found out we were expecting last month, everybody assumes we will be moving before the baby comes. I keep explaining to everybody that they now make mini cribs and you don't have to have a changing table, etc. Think back 50 years when people didn't all live in jumbo oversized houses. Babies were raised just fine back then.

Yes, I've been waiting for an entry like this too. Nursery? What is that? This looks like a very happy family space.

I like this entry too. My wife and I cosleep and with our daughter in a room like this. Cosleeping for many is counter-intuitive. It works for us. This looks like a nice setup.

I'm glad to see this entry. It's cute.

A few questions:

What type of dwelling is this? (apt? house?)
Is that the closet behind the curtain (behind the bed)?
Do you have any kind of shades/blinds on the windows?

Cute! I really like this, and is that a cloth diapered babe I see? I love the colors you used. Thanks for the inspiration!
